I definitely think Kwiatkowski is still a contender, and despite everything Nibali looks good for a top 10 here.

Kudos to Sagan for taking up the opportunity, if it wasn't for him I don't think the break would have happened. He strengthened his position on the podium overall, but the chance of overall victory is only slightly higher after today imo. It should be GVA vs Sagan tomorrow.

I will be surprised (and delighted) if he can make up 32 seconds on GVA. 3-5 in GC is way more realistic.
As weird as it sounds, Michal needed that MTF in order to win GC

I dont understand what Kiatkowski did at the end of the stage. He gave the stage to Van Avermaet and Sagan.

Sagan :( Why go so early?

GVA can sustain his power incredibly well in these kind of sprints. Looks like he has moved up a level since last year.

He made sure they didn't get caught? He was hardly going to win against them two, and with his attack he gained momentum that got them few big seconds that got him 9th in GC now and 5th looks doable tomorrow.

He had to go early - he might have been able to beat GVA or Sagan in a 1-2 minute all out effort, particularly if they were tired. In a 10-20 second sprint he would have had no chance.

Indeed. ANd it almost worked cause Stybar couldn't follow

He had no posibilities attacking from the front of the group. It looked more like trying not to get caught by the peloton. It was a desperate move, not too clever.

Oooooh, such a shame, shame on you GvA! All the best to Sagan and Stybar tomorrow

Why shame on GvA while he was riding sensibly for a change? Etixx' tactics on the other hand were incomprehensible.

Van Avermaet lost 27 secs to Cancellara on the timetrial last year
Different times, different measures. He didn't have a GC to fight for last year. There was no pressure at all.

The point is, I think, that even without such pressure, he did quite well.

if he had ridden full gas and los the sprint like so many times before has happened you would have said he'd ridden stupidly and should have saved a bit for the sprint..
