I think Gaviria didn't quite have the legs today (the track last weekend didn't help, see Viviani also arriving with the stragglers), and Sagan wanted to take the win (and some time ahead of tomorrow), so both TS and EQS went for it. You obviously can't give GVA a free ride there no matter what if you're Etixx, it was so much better and safer to have Ewan & Modolo mop up the points. But in cycling the surest way to win has always been to be boring and defensive, so it's entertaining to see the strong teams try out different tactics every once in a while, it makes the races better.

I didn't see this stage, but people on this forum often seem to confuse 'wheelsucking' with 'cycling tactics'

It seems to me both Sagan and Stybar had 2 teammates who were happy to do the necessairy work. GVA on the other hand has proven he can beat the guys left in the peloton, so no reason for him to do any pulls.
+1. Also, he was riding for TJVG as well, who had it not been for the crash with 5K to go would have been a big favorite for the overall. Why take pulls?

I don't understand why GVA takes all that flak. It used to be "he's not a winner". Now he wins, and it's something else. Great win. Period.

Sagan would need a ToC ITT to win the whole thing, I don't know if it is realistic, but it wouldn't be a huge surprise.

Haven't seen the race but even if he wheelsucked this day, with respect to his whole career so far, Greg deserves much more respect. When he retires, who would remember him as a wheelsucker because that's the way he won one stage in Tirreno Adriatico. He's an aggressive rider, he's the most consistent rider of all throughout the year. For all his career he deserves a Tirreno win. He'd be the first Belgian to win in 39 years and he can certainly compare to the other winner style-wise. But that other Belgian winner won it 6 times.

Classic :D :D :D

Tomorrows timetrial looks like a battle between Martin and Cancellara, but his won't effect GC

Looking at tour ITT over 13k we have this for the protagonists

Mollema
Jungels + 1
Pinot, Sagan + 2
Nibali + 6
Stybar + 8
Van Avermaet + 13
Kwiatkowski + 29 (would normally expect better from him)

Of course Brambilla and Reichenbach did not do the tour

Taking into account the slightly shorter distance then it is tight between GVA and Sagan

Missing turns in a break is part of Cycling. If you can get away with it then so be it. If your stupid enough to do even and honest fair turns that's your own fault. In life it's an edge to stroke pull and or cheat.

Great stage! Funny some called Greg not a winner just a couple weeks ago. Now he has two great wins already this season. I'm happy for him but today I must admit I was rooting for Sagan. I really want him to take the overall tomorrow. I lol'd when A. De Stefano on RAI asked him after the stage if today he was doing some training for Milano-Sanremo. Sagan was like WTF are you talking about, what training. I'm trying to win Tirreno-Adriatico :D

Asked about Brammeier's (who???) tweet, Nibali simply answered: "I just left it to my lawyer".

Brammeier's tweet is still there. I guess he doesn't have a lawyer. :D
I'm still wondering why someone should look for a shitstorm the way the Irish rider did. Either your brain is cooked or your brain is cooked. I don't see any other option.

It is his full right to disagree with Nibali and voice his opinion, but that way? As he said, totally moronic.

No comment on Tony Martin.

Mere insults and name-calling are not punishable by law. What's Nibali's lawyer gonna do, huh?

Which law? Italian law? Irish law? Do you know the laws in those countries?
