Tirreno - Adriatico 2022 (7.03-13.03)

I just finished watching this one. It's tough having PN and TA running at the same time!!

Organizers fault the GC guys went the wrong way!!! But still an exciting race :). I doubt the GC will be changed in anyway due to that wrong way move.

Chapeau to Barguil !
I agree about the organizers’ poor planning on that turn. I have rarely seen a turnoff to a side road coming off a downhill like that without the road having tape stretched across or at least a flagger standing in the middle of the road signaling to turn. I guess that the cars had to lv the course there made it more complicated. And for once there was no moto in front of them to make it easier to follow. But it’s also on the riders to know that was a key section of the course where they begin that climb.

It’s true the leaders didn’t end losing significant time because of the missed turn. But WE (the important people!) lost a huge moment of getting to see the 3 top riders go head to head on tough finishing section. We rarely get that scenario so it’s disappointing (for fans) to lose out.

they did have a tape and at least three marshalls dressed in fluo

The tape was not across the main road that they went down (probably because of the cars having to go through)). That tape you see in the photo is blocking a different turnoff., and provides no information about the correct turn. Yes the marshals are there—marshals are over the course. These are standing on the side of the road. They’re not standing in the middle of the road with the triangular flag held high over their head, pointing the flag to are the correct direction of the turn. That’s what I would expect to see at such a key intersection—but perhaps not in Italy!

So 3 strongest guys in the race (including You Know Who) attacked and it ended up in...going the wrong road! That was something rare. From TV perspective it looked to be poorly marked. Maybe they could have caught Barguil, who can enjoy his victory. Tomorrow the decisive stage - expect cold weather on Carpegna and some spactacular action.

Please don't post spoilers from other races on the same day. We don't all have the luxury of watching every race live.
This dance is danced every year around this time. I would like to apologise for being among those posting spoilers without the spoiler tag this year. However, at the same time I don't know why you'd enter the Paris-Nice and Tirreno threads without having watched both races if you're heavily invested in doing so spoiler-free when, year in year out, both frequently contain spoilers for the other race. I think I've said something similar on here before, which illustrates the point.

I watched T-A stage when I finished work, then read about it. Is that unreasonable? I haven't read the P-N thread yet today, and won't until I have watched it, and have no idea why you would assume that I had.

Year in, year out, there is neither need to, nor advantage to the writer in, putting up spoilers, so doing so is nothing other than thoughtlessness. That it happens as an accident is understandable, trying to defend it I really don't believe is, and if you remember having moaned about people requesting that spoilers be avoided, then you remember that spoilers are not appreciated.

If you're going to misrepresent what I said, there's no point in this discussion. All I said is that history shows you're overestimating the forum if you expect nobody to slip up when we have a full week of big races overlapping. That's not defending it, if it was I wouldn't have felt the need to apologise. Moreover, nowhere did I assume you had entered the P-N thread - read or instead of and if there's any confusion.

I also dug up my previous post on the matter, which, for the record, I did not remember until you (understandably) complained about spoilers:
While I agree with this, I also don't get why you'd run the risk of spoilers by venturing into race threads if you want to rewatch. Very easy to accidentally post in the wrong race thread if you're focusing on two races at once. I definitely didn't do this myself today.
You must have a very wide definition of moaning if either post falls within it...

It just struck me. I know what the master plan is. Evenepoel is building a fearsome reputation as the guy who's wheel you don't want to be in, on a descent. He already took out Casper Pedersen in Danmark Rundt and baited Teunissen, Kragh Andersen and Mads Pedersen into going all out and blowing themselves up. I think he will go one step further on Carpegna and take the descent with his feet in the air, swerving side to side in front of Pogacar. This is how he will eventually ride away from the competition. They will leave a gap out of security reasons, and then he will go into TT mode and ride off into the sunset. Or in case he remembered the route, he might just ride to the finishline.
