Nice to see Sobrero do a good TT after a not exactly ideal season start. Before the season Copeland said that they wanted to try him as a gc rider here, but no idea if plans have changed.

That is still the plan, however his crash at Ruta Del Sol forced him off the bike for 7 days - A top 10 would be a good result.

Interesting to see the gap between WT teams and Pro Conti teams here in stage 1…

Particularly the riders from the Italian Pro Conti teams all might have been 110% motivated here, and most might have gone full gas… At the end of the day, most of them did not have any chance, and got humiliated by most WT riders.

Let‘s see if the hillier stages deliver a different image…

The Watts God too good for the rest on this course. Very good performances by Evenepoel and also Pogacar - they are ahead of other GC guys.
Pog's TT surprised me - it was maybe his best ever dead-flat TT, just 2 days after Strade huge effort. The kid is a monster! And even bigger GC favourite than before the start.
Very disappointing TT by Vingegaard - he will have to gain significant time but his form ATM may not allow him to.

Remco trying to talk himself down. I think he has a good chance, he doesn't need to attack, just follow.

"I think the only way that I have to hope to beat him is if he has a really bad day and he doesn't recover from last Saturday," he said after noting that his eight-second advantage won't be enough to hold. "But he's such a strong and spectacular rider that he probably won't have a bad day this week.

I thought Vingegaard had a tiny bit of a shot

Crazy theory: ASO pays Rog amd Pog to not meet in stage races before the Tour for max hype
Crazy theory: Rog hasn't got a hope against Pog in the tour. Pog is actually the best cyclist since Merckx. He's got it all: best climber, best timetialler (of the gc guys and only a few secs off Ganna), great bike handling, great descender, nice smile, friendly, etc.
We want to believe there's a competition and suspense but only an accident can stop him.

You really think he got what it takes to outsprint Remco, who was mixing it up with the sprinters at both Algarve and Valenciana recently? ;):tearsofjoy:
I think when this race ends it will be time to swap Pog and Remco thread title

If Pogacar would've been 20-30 seconds slower it would've been perfect. Interesting advantage for Remco and even with MAL who can compete with him on his day on Carpegna.
But like this...yawn, Vingegaard disappointing but not even the worst. Not that it matters but some of these "GC guys"... jesus. Mas is just a joke at one week stage races, I wonder why he even bothers. Landa a walking meme in time trials, GCN probably could put Contador on a bike next to him and have him live doing live commentary. Keldermann also seems to have forgotten how to do TTs, wasn't he good at them once ?
MAL surprising and Carapaz decent given that he had covid.

I hope DQS do everything they can on these next 4 stages to make a Remco ambush possible, the terrain suits him but he needs a minute plus before Carpegna.
I know he's divisive but I have more trust in him to make anything happen before Carpegna than all these others (bar Carapaz) combined, which says a lot....

Just seen the results, Miguel 13th? Magic Mark 18th!?

Jumbo a pan y agua.

Kuss losing 1.31 is just unprofessional at this point

So Remco thinks the only other rider he needs to beat to win overall is Pog. Hmm.

Top sprinters for today, if they can make it over the last climb. I think Caleb Ewan is climbing great this year, he will want to get rid of others.
