I think Magnier doesn't have the power yet after a long and/or hard race. Probably has to do with being 20 years old.

MVDP blew his shot when trying to attack
Magnier would definitely have been a lot closer and possibly have won if he hadn't helped pace Landa back. But I do like that he did help and that the team/he was still strong enough to set it up for a sprint in the end.

Kooij got lucky with Landa's puncture because without that puncture he (and Magnier) probably never even make it back to the front and if they somehow did Magnier would still have been fresh as well.

But that's racing and in the end he was the fastest so fair play.
 
Isn't that every year when we're a week away from Sanremo? That's the beauty of the race, so many people who can do something compared to the other monuments (especially now that the aliens have taken tactics out of the cobbles).
I honestly don't understand why you wouldn't sandbag the hell out of it before Sanremo, as it is the one race where a anothers split second decision may make or break your own race.
