Van der Poel just about carrying his 500 pounds up that hill, it‘s why he doesn‘t do Strade.
Cause he can do it once or twice.Van der Poel just about carrying his 500 pounds up that hill, it‘s why he doesn‘t do Strade.
Indeed. Mathieu got his initial gap thanks to Jorgenson, but del Toro gapped Mathieu because of nearly eating *** himself. Also, MvDP said in a post-race interview that he almost fell when Del Toro accelerated and his chain was off which made it difficult to close the gap immediately. So Del Toro's gap had a reason.
I'm not saying he'll beat Pogacar, I'm just saying some of y'all are trying real hard to discredit his performance today. Get a grip.
This is how true champions race btwWhat do you mean deserved win for MvdP? He got a gap because someone crashed, then wheelsucked after he got caught. And then barely beat him!
Yeah, seriously, that‘s why he doesn‘t do Strade, he barely got up those two hills.Cause he can do it once or twice.
It's obviously cause he knows he has 0 shot against Pogacar and going full gas in Strade isn't gonna help him by the time Sanremo, RVV and Roubaix come around.Yeah, seriously, that‘s why he doesn‘t do Strade, he barely got up those two hills.
You can go crazy interpreting for Horner. Best let his jumbling account for itself.I think he meant 'based on career achievements'.
Last year was a down year for Roglic.
One day races are different than stage races, when you are competing against someone for the win who is also there for GC. Changes everything, as we saw today. Also, MvDP said in a post-race interview that he almost fell when Del Toro accelerated and his chain was off which made it difficult to close the gap immediately. He's clearly not training for Strade so why is it a deal? He may feel like PR is at risk and that is his priority; not setting up someone else to win at Strade and sacrifice a section of his season. Today was a training day and he won the stage. He won. Pog and Wout aren't in this race.Yeah, seriously, that‘s why he doesn‘t do Strade, he barely got up those two hills.
He earned it. He's wisely riding like a GC rider and his teammate did as well.very entertaining - deserved win for MVDP - Pellizzari got the place he deserved.
and there's no guarantee who will win Strade. It always has a wild card feel which makes it great. It's obviously cause he knows he has 0 shot against Pogacar and going full gas in Strade isn't gonna help him by the time Sanremo, RVV and Roubaix come around.
Wild DEL TORO appeared!Hindley lost almost a full minute. I guess that's it for the Red Bull trident, and instead it's probably gonna have to be Hindley on donkey duty and Roglic on long range attacks given that he's not really in stomping range and Del Toro is like 4x resistant versus stomp-type attacks.
Yes agreed, but I still think he has one or two Montmartres in him.If strength isn't the issue (and that will always be an issue against MVDP), positioning when things get dicy is what he's lost. When there's a fight for position, he pulls the ripcord, and gets out of danger.
Wild DEL TORO appeared!
Roglic used STOMP!
It's not very effective...
He was about as good as could be expected. He doesn't like climbing sections that are longer than a few hundred meters. Cipressa and Poggio work for him because there are no steep gradients.Duh..
MVDP had a gap on Del Toro thanks to the crash and Del Toro still caught him.
MVDP wasn't too impressive. That means nothing for Cipressaa and Poggio though.

I think most will he happy with an easy stage leading to a big bunch sprint. Alpecin still has Philipsen to go for it in that case, while van der Poel likely wouldn't beat someone like Lund anyway. Visma could be interested, but probably not alone on a 220k stage. Are there any semi heavies in this race that could make this? Or perhaps a WVA vs MVDP battle for good old sakes.
Long range defence 😍and Rogla managed to mitigate the losses to great extent.
Long range defence 😍
PCS/Flamme Rouge have decided to use a very exaggarated y axis for what should really be a sprint stage. Milan has been climbing like Kittel recently but if he doesn't make it through then it would be really disappointing. And the fun will continue tomorrow with stage 3:
