Essentially, yes.
But it's actually very subjective of course.

Seems you have somehow low standards.Ryo Hazuki said:uran was in the attack the whole day and still managed to hang on that long in the third week at age 22, in his first ever gt. but it seems your memory isn't much or you didn't watch it at all
You must be right, Nibali's placings in GT's were all thanks to his incredible TT achievements.we are not talkinmg about consistancy here. nibali is one of the most consistant riders in the world, but not one of the best climbers
cineteq said:You just have no arguments to support this. I'm going to give you one, just one reason why he's one of the top-10 climbers (being conservative here) in the world right now. 3rd on 2012 TdF with an injury at the end behind 2 ITT specialists. I'm not talking about one-day climbers, I'm talking about a 3-week GC climbers.

Doubt we'll this type of stage again based on that tweet.
Also the fact that it was the last road race stage. Lots of the riders would also have abandoned on an easier route (with rain).will10 said:There wouldn't have been anywhere near as many abandons as there were, had there not been circuits. When you're out the back, and you've still got another brutal circuit to go but you can see the bus, it's a lot harder to carry on than if you had say 40km to go and the bus was...40km away.

You heard it here first. Is a GT climber better?Pentacycle said:What is a 3 week GC climber? Haven't heard that one before.
I approve this.Netserk said:Only Purito, Contador and Froome are better climbers than Nibali. Then there are a few who are on the same level as Nibali.

Pentacycle said:He's getting old now, but what he did on the Galibier was very impressive. So impressive that I rate him way higher than Nibali in terms of climbing.
Ryo Hazuki said:and it had 95% to do with the weather. if it was an easy circuit stage today in the rain, everyone abandoned as well who wouldn't have itt aspirations
I think many of us just define "best climbers" differently.Ryo Hazuki said:we are not talkinmg about consistancy here. nibali is one of the most consistant riders in the world, but not one of the best climbers

You can't be considered one of the best climbers in the world without at least a certain level of consistency in my opinion. If I'm coming up with a list of the top climbers, I'm naming guys who have shown an ability to be at or near the top time and time again. I'm not going to include guys who have shown something once or twice in their career but most of the time are just not there.
