I agree, Gesink wasn't good enough in the hills, if he wins a big stage race, I wanna see him at his best, in his best area.
It's very good news that a NOT good Gesink can finish 2nd in a race like the Tirreno, with a short TT and a TTT in it.

Imagine a good Gesink, he'd crush it :p

Come on mate... it's his 3rd race of the season and he has given it everything the past 3 days. He did what he had to do. Winning the GC was extremely optimistic at the start of the race. This has been a brilliant race by him and the whole BMC team.

yeah, i guess your right. He really isn't at his best and it is ultimately his 1st race of the season against a strong field.

Gesink, dammit, had I seen the TTT and ITT result before this race no way I thought you could screw this up :(

Couldn't agree more. Incredible.

From another perspective, Gesink's significant improvement in his TT abilities, makes me happy with regard to thrilling future GT's.

Well, last year he forgot how to TT. Let's hope he hasn't neglected his climbing training this year. :p

Well done Cadel, did what he had to do today, he really won it yesterday with the stage win. Gesink did excellently to get to second and it will be interesting to see how he goes in the rest of the season.

Yup we will get some close racing in the future. But whats up with those schleck brothers, they are not even in competition for a win...

Meh, that's just a form thing. It's not like these were his climbs imho.
Yes he won Emilia and he is good at Fleche Wallone, but that's still different than these hills.

Gesink more than anything is still a climber for very long climbs and he favors +1500m climbs...

Ahhhh damn it... Il Principe very bad today =( even Tiago is over him =/
Well... at least Scarponi in podium...
Gesink was pretty shocking... I didnt expect that performance in a short ITT... He has been really working in his TT...
Now lets wait for his performance in a "long" flat ITT... but I could expect the same result!

Andy Schleck only cares about July and the penultimate week in April.

Anything else is unimportant.

Pais Vasco.

Gesink even looked good on his TT bike... that windtunnel time has really paid off.

Its kind of refreshing to see somebody do a lame TT and still win. Evans was the best rider and deserving winner overall.

yeah last year Gesink really wasn't great here either, struggled initially at every final hill.
Not to mention he likes high altitude.

Well, there you go.
Cadel takes the biggest win of his career and Bobby G beats them all in a flat ITT.
Cue a war of words that will run until the end of July.

Biggest win of his career?

Maybe biggest stage race win. I'd say T-A tops Romandie on a win list. But I'd say the World Championship RR win and possibly La Fleche Wallone may rank higher as wins on a palmares... perhaps T-A vs LFW is a toss up.

So then the GC should finish off with Gilbert 9th and Löfkvist 10th.

Thanks for opening my eyes on Lofkvist before the race, I guess we were both right though (5th-10th) I thought he showed himself to be quite strong on the tougher days.

Great win for Evans!

But Gesink's performance was most exciting for me. Now I know who I can cheer for in the Tour this year:)

Cancellara looked so grumpy in the waiting area. I didn't see his ride but he just doesn't seem happy this season.
