I have to say... Whatever you say about the quality of the race itself, the scenery is absolutely magificent. Despite two weeks of Italian beauty (and I'll never forgive the weather gods for robbing us of the chance to admire the Tuscan scenery on stage 7), California is really unparalled.

I must be spoiled growing up in LA. I think the scenery in Europe is just spectacular. They are very different

Lots of people calling it quits today (Fab, Boom, Leezer, Kristoff, Danielson) so either the mini Alpe d'Huez is a veritable killer or people really don't care about the honour of finishing Cali.

Now that is true. Not sure if I'd say it's more beautiful than Italy, but it is magnificent.

can't one of these Garmin dudes CINZANO Mick Rogers off mullholland hwy and ride away with victory???

Dave Z says he trains on Mullholland climb every day practically.. I might be moving to LA, wonder if I would see him if I rode there? would be cool.. I'd have to be wearing my Wolverine marvel comic jersey, lol.

This is a mini Alpe d'Huez according to Liggett.

Everything is an Alpe d'Huez. Big Bear was 'comparable to Alpe d'Huez'. This miniscule climb is 'a mini Alpe d'Huez'. You'd think Liggett had never heard of any other climbs.

Also, how cringeworthy. I wonder if tweedledee and tweedledum have much to say about the Giro d'Italia stage to Zoncolan.

The stairs up to my apartment are like a micro Alpe d'Huez.

Yup, I've been there for 5 weeks ages ago, have family there.
It's funny that most places they did in the ToC the past year are familiar to me because I've visited them before.
Great, vast place, not so crowded as our sh.tty country. So much to see... I would love going back there one of these days

I think that's it. They are different to one another. We are always intrigued by what others have, and take what we have for granted.

Also, we get other chances to see the scenery of Italy - Tirreno-Adriatico, Giro del Trentino, Milan-San Remo, Giro di Lombardia, and so on. California only appears on our screens once a year, which makes it all the more appealing.

Personally, I think the scenery I'd most like to see all day all the time in my bike racing is the lower slopes of the Passo di Fedaia:

Maybe some very isolated parts of Europe (I am very fond of Tuscany)... Nowhere in the Netherlands at least comes anywhere close :p

But the combination the oceans and beaches, the mountains, forests and hills is just really incredible. I have very fond memories of visiting Yosemite about 7 years ago, which just blew me away.

I really don't care enough to stay up to see who wins this, so I'm going to call it a night. I hope Rogers takes it now that he's been let off Cav-minding duty. Perfectly acceptable alternatives: Voigt or Sagan, for various reasons (being plain awesome and being good for my fantasy team, respectively).
