“When I turned pro, really the only acceptable style of racing was to wait, to wait, wait, wait. I tried to change that a little bit but now everybody’s waiting again,” Boonen said. “They’re all afraid of each other. They’re so afraid to do one thing too much and get dropped in the final. I think some people would prefer to lose the race and not to attack, than to attack and get dropped. And I don’t like it.
Although Paris Roubaix is perhaps better suited for Tom, I'm afraid todays performance is a very honest indication that he doesn't have the strength anymore. Trying a long range attack like with the assistance of other outsiders like in 2014 seems to be the only option he has, from an individual point of view. Another thing is the team tactics.jmdirt said:TB looked OK, today and was in a group only a minute down on PS. Is he ready for P-R? I'd like to see him at least be part of the battle at the front.
I wonder though, if his main goal is P-R; once the race was up the road today if he just said 'OK settle into this group and get some solid time on the bike without burning too many fun tickets'. I guess we'll see soon enough!Cance > TheRest said:Although Paris Roubaix is perhaps better suited for Tom, I'm afraid todays performance is a very honest indication that he doesn't have the strength anymore. That position mistake in sprint sucks tho![]()
