Not a big fan of Dumoulin, but I was cheering for him today when he attacked because he took risks and it kinda paid off. Beating Froome for 2nd place bonus seconds was nice as well.

People keep saying he isn't a 'pure' climber... For me he definitely is! Awesome climbing today and the only one who can put pressure on sky, next time with a late attack.

Ok, so he did all this to honor his uncle, who learned him how to ski in this village. His uncle died this spring, 2 weeks after his aunt died.
He really wanted to win the stage but Thomas was too strong.

Podium up for grabs this year. With Porte out,Dumoulin's got a great chance.I don't see him winning it all,but a podium place looks very possible.

Probably gave absolutely everything he had today then... great ride

Not too optimistic about tomorrow but I hope he can recover.

Stunning performance once again, this guy keeps surprising me. I know I said he would fade in the end but at this point it wouldn't shock me to see him hold on and finish on the podium.

I am rooting for Tom Dumoulin. He is now the hope of the side and nobody in Sky can be too cocky about the TT whilst Tom is within striking range. Remember 2017 Giro. Hopefully this years Giro does not take its toll next week. Go you good thing!

He recovered fine in the 2017 Giro after a far more demanding effort on the "poop" stage. He will be fine tomorrow. Next week is the question.

**** heroic. Alone vs Sky and nobody wanted to work with him. Not Valv, not Thomas.

Could do 3rd place after the Stormtroopers 1-2
Ofc Valv didnt want to work with him, he was on the limit..

Amazing performance, very surprised.
And of course Thomas didn’t work, he was waiting for Froome.

Gutsy ride today, though who knows how he'll be tomorrow now. Oh what the heck...

Gert-Jan Dumoulin ftw on Alpe d'Huez.

Re:

For me, the best performer of the day. Hope he can hang on and pounce on the ITT stage. But i fear the Giro might have taken its toll by then.

I have to wonder, why aren't you a fan? For my taste, by far the most likable GC contender currently.

Gutsy ride by Tom, with a well deserved result! He may not have gained time on the Sky leaders, but the time gaps to Nibali, Quintana and the rest are the result of his brave attack and it will help him in the podium fight.

He said he felt bad and hung on for dear life btw. But he said when they got closer to the finish he smelled the win and that gave him extra strength.

In the Giro he said nearly every day his legs weren't good. I think he is confusing pain with bad legs. Everybody is in pain

Hopefully he can keep this form going into next week...

Maybe Thomas will be hit with the hammer like Yates was in the 3rd week?

Anyway... the race doesnt look completely over at least.

Imagine what he could do with good legs.
