Someone should have asked Dr Hutch while he was commentating on Eurosport yesterday. He has written a book about his own attempt after all.

that's what could give it an extra impulse again, by having someone like martin go for it

I would pay for a seat at the track to see Cancellara go for it, but would probably just watch Martin on tv.

he doesnt have the personality to make it an 'event' yet...

No, it's track cycling. Very similar, but different enough that he'd need some specific training. And it's not like Boardman was a random schmuck either. Back when he first beat the hour record LeMond said everybody thought they could beat him, because seriously, Boardman? But he added they'd be shocked when he beat them in the TdF prologue, which he did a year later.

Plus riding for an hour à bloc is totally different than riding a set distance. For the mind at least.

I don't see why Martin shouldn't go for it, the training involved wouldn't be too different than the pre-season training for a rider like him anyway.

If Martin set his attempt for mid/late March, the preparation could be perfect pre season for him (unless he still has that pipedream of a TdF top 10 )

Bringing back the superman position would help. Preparing for an hour on a 1970s era track bike is probably enough to wreck any body.
