Roglic getting a lesson in energy management in a grand tour.

Hopefully it doesn't neuter his racing style going forward

Yep, he blew some matches yesterday.

The in action time gaps are showing the overall rather than the stage gaps? That explains Roglic appearing to have a 6 second lead early on then being massively behind.

You just have to feel sorry for Roglic. Couldn't have timed his bad day any worse

Yeah. That threw me off too. Looked like he was pulling back some time earlier.

I have to wonder, is this really that surprising? Thomas is beating two riders coming off the Giro-Tour double, something that hasn't been done close to successfully since Pantani. And the number 4 is going to be Roglic, a man who's best GT finish so far is 38.

I'm not saying anyone should have expected this, or that it's not a revelation that Thomas is this good. But honestly the competition is really quite poor.

So Froome goes 1-3, Dumoulin 2-2. Those are by far the best Giro-Tour double attempts in the last 20 years. That extra week in between probably does a lot.

Yes. I remember similar thing earlier for example in 2011 as they were trying to spot the exact moment Evans went ahead of Andy.

Didn't have competition like the Astana team Contador was up against during his Giro either

I think the fact that none of the normal GT challengers are remotely close to peak form (or crashed out) is helping a lot as well.
