Good win by Carapaz but as has been pointed out, this was not against top in form WT guys. A shame that Carapaz is down for the Tour as if he and EF went to the Giro with a good team, it would prove interesting.

Cadena, Del Toro and now Muñíz. Is Mexico finally waking up to become the force it has the potential to be in the sport? They have the climbs, they have the altitude, they have the facilities, they just only periodically contribute a Raúl Alcalá or a Julio Alberto Pérez Cuapio.

I have had about a dozen attempts to do Race Design Thread routes in Mexico and always have far too much that I want to include. I love a lot of things about Mexico.
Muniz was already great in the Tour de L'avenir as a teammate for del Toro, 9th on the Col de la Loze MTF.

Imo Mexico always had talented riders, but because of the lack of infrastructure nearly all of them didn't get a chance outside of the South and North American racing scene.

Carapaz could get relegated for that dangerous manouevre in the last 150 metres.

Jonathan Restrepo de winner. Surprised that he could keep up the wheel in the last climb. He was the best sprinter of course. Bernal working for him all the way up to the last meters.

Chapeau Contreras. The race of his life. He pulled a Lopez here. This was his most important performance of his life. Very impressive.

But even then, they often stall out significantly after the junior/espoir phase, it's not like we are regularly seeing the Mexicans rocking the GCs at even things like the Vuelta a Guatemala or Costa Rica, let alone in the US or Colombian/Venezuelan domestic calendars.

Yeah, that's true.
