I would take very little risk into the corners if I'm Quintana, Contador or Froome. Just not worth it

Because it's far more important to know how long he'll be out for or even if it's career ending than knowing if he'll retire from one single race that he's not even team leader for.

The biggest race of the year and the best rider in the peloton just abandoned!
This is unreal!

Well, it's an important question because sustaining the wrong* fracture may end his career. I hope that's not the case, but it's certainly a possibility.

*) Obviously, no fracture is "right", but some are more likely to end his career than others.

Terrible about Valverde. He's been on incredible form all year and had a real shot at winning given his finishing abilities (and lack of high altitude climbing). Going to make things really difficult for Quintana.
