Kwiatkowski will probably go for it today. Remember the team classification.

You really think that :
a) Sky care two hoots about the team classification, and
b) that the best three AG2R time trialists can take more than a minute each on average out of Froome doing his best and any two other Sky riders on that course?

A) Yes, in fact I know they do.
B) Of course not, but they are not going to risk anything.

Have they announced De Gendt as Super-Combatif yet? It will surely be him, no?
It should be. In the breakaway in 11/18 road stages + pulling the peloton for Greipel.
With some more restraint, he could've won a stage though. But he just goes and sees where it gets him. Strange guy, but definitely not dumb.

Apparently it's asphalt, though I'm a bit puzzled about how that's gonna work. They'd have to remove it pretty quickly again.

So... one question:
Why does a football stadium have velodrome in its name? Isn't velodrome the word for a cycling track?

When it was built, in the 30s during the peak of track cycling, it had a track. But track cycling declined and they got rid of the track in favour of more seats

They're doing a twitter vote now, and then 6 jury members will also cast their vote. De Gendt has a large lead in the twitter vote, probably he Rted the tweet.
IMO Barguil should be the winner, or Matthews. If they want to pick someone who didn't win anything, Dan Martin or Contador. But De Gendt's fake aggressiveness (going in pointless breaks and keeping track of no. of km with the sole aim of winning the prize) doesn't do it for me and his whining in the media about it makes me hope he doesn't win it.

'Fake aggressiveness'?
Except he has been racing like this always, i.e. also when there are no combativity awards. And it has yielded him results too.

Way to personally attack someone who's motivation you do not know.

Tony Martin is sandpapering his backside again: he wants it.
It's stupid, it looks horribl on TV and the race commissaires shouldn't approve something like that, it gives you an advantage and allows yu to sit on the tip of the saddle, even if the consequences are really bad.
That said, Panzerscrotum FTW!

I thought asphalt needed a fairly deep base layer of crushed rock. Wonder what the playing surface will be like for the beginning of the football season...

Aah... it's not asphalt, but asphalt-esque. Thaaat explains it.

He has been very vocal that this was his aim and even admitted in interviews on tv that he attacked to win the prize. A few days ago he sadly admitted that he felt he had little chance to win because 5 of the jury members are French, but he hoped Marion Rousse could convince the others to vote for him. Tough luck, Gallopin was selected as well  He even keeps a list of how many km he's been in the breakaway. He's obsessed.
http://m.nieuwsblad.be/cnt/dmf20170720_02981097 he was 2nd last year, 3rd the year before so he really wanted to win
His attacks amounted to nothing. It was all for show in the hopes of winning the prize. I know he is and has always been a very aggressive rider and that's why I feel this way of riding should be punished. He doesn't have to fake his fighting spirit. He should pick 3 or 4 stages and go for the stage win.

Looking for that article I also realized how it's possible he has such a big lead and why almost all replies to that tweet supporting him are from Belgians. It's not just that he has retweeted that tweet but several big Belgian news sites are asking their readers to vote.

Yeah pretty awful of him to have a goal at this tour which brings in 20k for him and his team. His style of riding has brought him major victories. Could have also happened this tour.
