Tour de France 2018 stage 6: Brest > Mûr de Bretagne 181 km

Unfortunately no Bernal at finish.
What Michał said before today's stage: they are not interested in sacrifiing themselves for gaining a few seconds at such finish. What is crucial - to be at front of peloton in final km's and not to lose any seconds (besides bonuses).
I think, tomorrow it would be the same.

Please let Valverde win this stage.. 6 years is too long.

Some interesting outsiders would be Bernal and Colbrelli. If Bernal doesn't lead Froome out, he can make it with a sneak attack and has a good finish. Colbrelli is in amazing shape and can survive this hill.

I agree, 6 years is too long. Time for another Tour stage win for Bala. Interesting question how close to a record would it be if he wins tomorrow? The record for most years between first and most recent stage win is the record I'm wondering about. He already holds that record for la Vuelta.

Valverde to win his first stage since 2012 and Phil to mispronounce his name.

Phil is going to mispronounce his name rather he wins the stage or not.

I think every non-Spaniard mispronounces his name because it's very difficult to say correctly. Even I choose not to do it because if I insist on pronouncing it the Spanish way, it will make me sound like a ***.

Gilbert FTW and yellow jersey. Unless he closes his teammate down on Mur de Bretagne again as in 2011. :D

Guy in your avatar is maybe a better pick, no? ;)

QS will try same trick as they did today, with Phil going earlier and Ala staying in the wheels (preferably Valverde's), but the Don will be too strong for them :p

More interesting is the team had all their riders say their names and they have it on their website so people can hear the correct pronunciations. Truthfully I wouldn't be shocked if his name is the reason they finally did this.
I think it was Christian said he did ask Alejandro how to pronounce he name once. He said Alejandro pronounced it for him, then said don't worry I'll answer however you pronounce it or call me Bala if you'd prefer.

One of the guys involved with the team marketing said they got the idea from this video

Sepulveda is mispronounced far more often in non-spanish media, he's just not as famous

TY, I had wondered why they decided to do. Glad they did though.

I didn't realize Alejandro's name was so difficult to pronounce (not including accent differences) as what it apparently is. My mom was a teacher and big on phonics and that included for Spanish when learning words or names.

I'm not surprised that Sepulveda is mispronounced more often. Of course I keep pronouncing Jamie with the English instead of the Spanish pronunciation.

Sepúlveda is much easier to pronounce. You just need to know that it's the u that's accented and then it's pretty straight-forward. To pronounce Valverde correctly it requires quite a bit of tongue control with the "rd"-combination.

Looks like a short enough climb to still suit Sagan much like the Tirreno stage this year where he won and the entire rest of the top 10 were gc climber types. They will have to go savagely hard on the tougher first half of the climb if they want to distance Sagan and I don't see who is brave enough to try it.

Roglic and Adam Yates are interesting outsiders for this finish and not mentioned by many people.

Well most of the announcers have problems pronouncing Alejandro correctly forget about pronouncing Valverde correctly. Then of course different accents are going to make pronunciations a bit different as well.

Valverde and Alaphilippe don't actually need to drop Sagan they just need to make sure he's worn out. Remember Valverde has beaten Sagan in sprints in the past. So he doesn't have to be dropped.

Here's the link to save people like me a few seconds of googling.

Not entirely convinced Greg won't be there, the way he has been climbing in Suisse, knowing how he climbed in 2016, knowing that fatboy Hushovd managed to finish alongside Contador, Evans, VDB etc in 2011.

That was such a *** move. Not to mention insanely stupid. Either VDB was gone, or someone else would need to close the gap and Phil would have been in a seat.

Re: Tour de France 2018 stage 6: Brest > Mûr de Bretagne 181

This is the stage where Froome unleashes his inner middle finger . . . hoisted as high as it can go.

Hope I'm wrong, but I was also hoping for England to make it to the finals of the World Cup, just to see the showdown between them and France, Monty Python style.
