500km to the closest non-processional stage if you live in Brittany. Tour de l'est de la France may be more appropriate name for this edition.

While the final route was not quite like in that map, reminds me of Vuelta 2012, which had Madrid as the southernmost point:

Could have been worse I suppose. With one extra tt and a proper queen stage it would be quite good.

By the sounds of it stage 18 is the queen stage. 207 kms including 3 climbs that all go above 2,000 metres; that's going to be very tough. It is very well positioned too, being critically the first in a three stage mountain block. If it was stage 20 it would be a disaster, but a long (for these days) stage followed by two short (but still tough) stages could work.

Pyrenees look good too, with an interesting hilly ITT, but relatively short is good, so as to not discourage racing too much on the stage before. However, the route is horribly lacking at LEAST one more ITT. Alps could have been stages 17-19 with the 'traditional' 50 km ITT on stage 20.

Tom should go to the Giro again IMO.

High altitude stages in the TDF should be encouraging for Bernal and Quintana.

ASO putting in request to UCI to prohibit use of power meters says Christian Prudhomme #TDF2019 :surprised:
Lol what a f#cking fanny

Why not? It will likely cause more riders blowing up as they cant ride without their meters. Why dont we try it? Why is it so bad? Why do riders have it in the first place?
If a rider is really good he will likely win anyways.

I dont think it helps cycling one bit if a DS can say to his riders "ride at 350 watts non stop this climb". The more I think about it, the crazier it sounds.

I totally agree.

I mean, we've heard many riders say they rode this or that stage with an eye on their power meters to make sure they wouldn't risk blowing up, but who can argue with "no it won't" and "f#cking fanny"?
If power meters are going to be prohibited they'll be ready for it.

- Less sprints than usual in the first week
- Good stages through the Vosges
- Very nice stages through the Massive Central
- Nice ITT placement in an iconic TdF town
- Iconic summit finish on the Tourmalet
- Nice new summit finish on Prat d'Albis
- Great use of rarer climbs in the Alps, great use of altitude
- So excited to see Galibier south again after 2011
- Great finish of the race on a 30km+ climb
I never expected to hear this from you. Agree on all points tho, its not that bad, but you really shouldn't rate it above 5 IMO (which I am still sure you haven't).

I'll take sprint stages over Fedrigo/LL Sanchez/Casar type stages everytime.
I don't mind sprint stages but 9 pancake flat stages like this year was a disgrace. Just have 5 flat stages and 5 hilly ones where sprinters still have a chance but they have to work for it.

btw I also have to laugh at Preudhomme and ASO for their call on banning power meters. I can say with 100% certainty this will have 0,0 effect whatsoever. These guys are so trained on what effort to ride and how they really dont need to stare at their meters to do so.

If they think this will have any effect they are really as stupid as I thought they were

You know what's less precise than a power meter? Going by feeling alone.

Agreed. Several guys have come out and said pro's know very well how much watts they are pushing and most of them, including Sky if I remember correctly, don't even bother to make much use of them during a race.

If true then why do they use them? And why should they be used? Does it add any value to cycling?
