One thing that's great about Alaf is he'll chase down attacks, take part in lead outs even tho he's WC and has his own ambitions (which were dashed pretty early, but he still wants a stage win). On the other hand he sure uses a lot of energy when, if he kept some matches dry, might be used to better effect. I thought going in the break yesterday, and even on Mt. Ventoux, was a suicide mission. He spent 250 km or so taking pulls with nothing to show for it.

He really rides every day like it's a one-day race. I could go crazy, watching that, since I'd really like him to get another stage, it always looks like he'd sure have the quality if he focused.

The work for the team, although I'd rather have him rested, is something that he should be fine with, if what is said about his earnings is true. Because I think he gets some pretty big money, considering it's Quickstep.

You'd think more riders would give it a shot here. Most teams have no shot of winning today so go join Pacher and try at least. Terrain atm even suits an attack

Tell that to the sponsor of the combativity award. Agree with your point but in practice it's impossible.
I don't mind the CA what really bugs me but is understandable from a sponsor point of view is riders having to wear jerseys for being 2nd in a classification

I think in stage races there should be a jersey for stage winners that you can see in the peleton.

Make it 'bravest breakaway rider' or something like that where combativity isn't equated to 'random attacking'. Today was kind of harmless fun but I remember e.g. last year at the Col de la Loze stage where Alaphilippe went over and over with dumb attacks, sabotaging Carapaz and the others in the breakaway just because Macron was in the car behind and he wanted that combativity award.

I used to think that too, now I've changed my mind to "he just can't help himself". If there's anything left in him he seems to go crazy.

But when was he planning to try? I mean he didn't even try on the Ventoux stage and that was his weather?

I was referring to my suggestion that stage winners in races where a special jersey so they are identified in the peleton.
