The racing was on and everything was happening within seconds/minutes. Pog himself had to make split decisions. There is no way the DS had time to say anything to Pog at that moment. By then things had already happened or was happening. In the end he just had a bad day or ending to the last climb. Vingegaard was stronger. Pog seems to have come to terms with it. Even congratulated him directly after the finish. He is looking forward and doing what he can do now do try and win the race. Still a few stages left. Anything could happen. No time to dwell on the past.

Yes. Without him knowing at that point how much Roglic has left in the tank after the crash, he couldnt afford having both Vingo and Primoz close to him in the GC. Maybe he tried to intimidate Jumbo by putting a show of strength on the Galibier so that they dont attack him on Granon but Vingegaard was stronger that anyone thought he would be.

I said in an earlier post we were saying they are gonna be tired after these efforts.

But then as I said. He still looked the strongest over Galibier and he was fine, until he wasnt.

I never said he didnt screw up. But saying it was just because of his ego is just lazy. It was that part I responded to. Things are more complicated than that.

Yup, WVA's presence made Pog's attack almost impossible to succeed. Let's remember that he already saved Vinge on the cobbles. Think about it: Vinge has had two of the best 3 cyclists in the world at his disposal. Wow.

Yeah, I have no idea if it was his ego. Certainly, Jumbo used his aggressive nature against him. Good on them for great tactics.

Jonas Vingegaard does look strong..and also more comfortable than Pogacar uphill.
Could he have placed Pogacar on the last climb - and gained some seconds and perhaps held that with the downhill...maybe.. but it wouldn't make much sense, even with Van Aert being able to take the downhill.
it ain't on tricky downhills Jonas needs to chance it.. he looks strong as.. when going uphill and IMO the strongest in the peloton, and Jonas did it last year - where he also was able to place and distance Pogacar before a downhill on Mount Ventoux and took around 40 seconds to Pogacar, but lost it again on the downhill all alone, where Pogacar with others were able to close and here Van Aert were also in front and took a beautiful stagewin.

Jonas needs to concentrate on the uphill finishes in the coming days, not holding a small gain on a tricky downhill..

I’m probably wrong but I really expected Pogacar to attack on the steep final 3km of MdP, but when Kuss took over it didn’t look to me like he was as comfortable as usual.

We all know it can change in a day but Vingegaard is looking to me incredibly strong. He has two more days to survive without losing time and then he is pretty much home and hosed. As someone else said on here today, he’s looking that strong you wouldn’t be surprised to see him actually beat Pog in the TT.

I must have missed VH riding at the front but if he was I think he was of limited use going in the break today. It was definitely a deterrent with WVA being there however at the final climb. I think they will certainly be happy with how it panned out but there is always a risk that it mightn't work out as planned.

Not at all, Wout being there was impt insurance for Vingegaard: if Pog managed to gap him on the climb, Wout was there to lead the chase back. Just because they didn’t end up needing it doesn’t mean it wasn’t the correct strategy—it was well set up.

Can Geschke actually win KOM. Wasted a lot of energy today for 12pts. But at least extended his lead.

-19 Meintjes
-21 Powless
-22 Vingegaard
-23 Ciccone
-23 Latour

Meintjes probably won´t get another breakaway opportunity. 7th in GC after todays stage.
Vingegaard would need to win the next two stages (or get points on earlier climbs...unlikely).
Powless was among the first riders to be dropped from the break in the last two mountain stages. Also still 13th in GC.

That leaves Ciccone and Latour. Not sure if they are any stronger than Geschke.

Not too sure what people are expecting of Ineos at this Tour. Thomas is a very effective diesel these days. Yates isn't his brother. Martinez has no form. Baffling that they didn't put Pidcock in the break today as he probably would have won. But beyond that, they're working with what they've got.

Good point—I think teams are wise to think of today and tomorrow as a combo: managing time gained/lost for two days is what will matter.

yeah, not looking too bad for Geschke. Another couple of points on the first climb tomorrow are not out of question as well, I would say.

A potential problem it that Walscheid tested covid-positive today, though, and he was Geschke's room mate.
