I suppose other teams will have to decide if they're racing Vingegaard and Pogacar or are they racing amongst themselves for 3rd. Leaving Vlasov steal time here will make that 3rd spot harder if they don't help out.

I think Jumbo have gambled that the other teams will try and control the break today. It's a game of bluff but only Ineos have shown any tendency to ride near the front. I don't think UAE have any interest in finishing second anyway so they won't ride. If Ineos call Jumbos bluff it would scupperJumbos plan.

The guy is clearly sick, maybe relax a bit...

Also, is that one incident i Andorra in 2019 not the only thing that has given way for this reputation? The fact that people keep mentioning it doesn't mean that he never works for his leader. But I guess that's the meme generation...
DS: Marc, you have to drop back and work for Kingtana.
Marc: I object.
DS: No, you have to drop back.
Marc: I strenuously object.
DS: Well in that case, go for the stage.

Ok, I wouldn't have made such a general statement but lets also not pretend he showed up in any useful form for Pogacar at this TdF. Its Majka and a bit of McNulty (and tbh thats already a big gap to what JV had in support). The rest of the team could as well have stayed at home.

So the tactical masterplan by JV is to have Van Hooydonck drop on the first climb and pace the last 2K on that climb and lead the descent. Next, Kuss will pace the last climb with WvA waiting to pace the last K if necessary and for sure pace the descent / last flat K's.
So all in all, it could make sense. But it was a bit of an unnecessary gamble. If UAE or Ineos tried to do something on the first little climb, or if Vingegaard had a problem, there could have been trouble.

The main group will lose a couple of minutes more on the Lers if this is the plan and nobody helps Jumbo there

It's possible to recover from stomach problems and continue riding, but this isn't some ultra cycling event so I doubt Soler will be of any use for the rest of the Tour even if he makes it. Besides, UAE already have Hirschi as a bottle carrier who can't do much else, another one doesn't help them.

Ineos could think of sending Yates and Pidcock up the road part way up the Lers. Then force Jumbo to chase before Van Aert has dropped back to assist. No better rider than Pidcock to pace with down the descents. They have the numbers but I don't know whether they are actually riding to win or just trying to keep riders up there in GC. The way this tour is going though they must sense an opportunity to do something.

You don't normally see the broom wagon. I don't think I ever have during the stage.
normally also not these kind of team cars ;)
