That's really early for Pedersen to go. It could work though, most of the stronger teams will be at least partly focussed on the GC battle instead of the stage win.

The problem is that the break is too far up front. Trying to close down 3 minutes will cost him.

I think the break lost a minute in the run up to and through the first cobble section

The next sector is the one with the downhill run-up? Would've done the same thing as Pedersen to reach it in front of the peloton

Break will win. Not a surprise when you let those guys go. Incredible tactics from teams like Trek, Alpecin, QS, Lotto, etc. Those teams without a GC leader.

Yeah, I don't get that either. Now they are riding after giving this group 3 minutes... Can't say I understand their tactics

Looks like people who should still don't realize that it's super hard to catch a strong break in these kind of races because it's impossible to do an organized chase once the chaos starts (in a few km).
