This is the type of transitional stage where classic riders and breakaway specialists have a chance. Les trois magnifiques (Van der Poel, Van Aert and Alaphilippe) haven't won a stage yet, so they should seize this opportunity. Other candidates are Bettiol, Cort, Girmay, Campenaerts and Madouas.
Would love to see MVDP give it a go.

On another note, he said he was sure Van Aert would want to hit the break today, as he had heard he would leave the Tour tomorrow - not quite clear if it was an assumption or actually based on something factual
What a fail. Belgian pozzato and partner literally conceived their child at the worst possible time.

Wide roads until the top of the 2nd climb, which makes it hard to get away.

We may see 45 minutes of failed breaks.

bro, these climbs are 5%. That's never too hard

That being said. VDP reported this morning he had a bad night and is feeling ill. So my expectations have dropped below 0
I'm continually surprised by how much "illness" there is in the peloton. Not in a Clinic sort of way, but just in general. When I was in my 20s I would go years without a cold or gastric flu, except for maybe the middle of winter. I guess their bodies are always on a fine line between perfect shape and weakened immune system.

Jumbo constantly keeping a leach on any move that does not include Van Aert.

Meintjes going, which makes a lot of the GC guys move.

Odd jakobsen drops alone, maybe Soudal has changed strategies and don't want to spend energy protecting him anymore.

He may drop out of the race today.

Would be hilarious if Vingegaard and Pogacar are allowed in the break because none of the other GC teams believe they can beat them anyway.
