Obviously that Vingegaard is soemwhat nervous and not a personality that loves that spotlight
though looks good with that old fellow Dannebro waving.

This graphic is 100% incorrect. Swiss cross was used as early as the 13th century in the Swiss Confederation. The Russian tricolour was introduced by Peter the Great.

Aside the Mohoric interview the other day, I have a hard time remembering many meaningful speeches given by cyclists, especially on the Champs Elysees.
Of course a crazy prepared team like JV could have had a better speech ready for him.
A prepared speech only works if the one giving it is a talented speaker. Jonas obviously isn't. Many, many athletes aren't.
The only one I vaguely remember was Geraint's. I recall it was pretty spontaneous and funny. But I don't care about those speeches. Or the various podium ceremonies overall for that matter. I care for the race, and in the end, this one absolutely delivered.

As a point of pedantry the Stars & Stripes changed in 1960 when a 50th star was added when Hawaii became a state.

And the current British flag was first used in 1801

GC position I think, he’s 10th on PCS and the official site.

In the event of a tie in the ranking, the cyclist with the most stage victories is the leader. If that is also a tie, the number of intermediate sprint victories indicates the leader. If that is also a tie, the general classification determines the leader.

Guess whoever had updated wasn't aware of that rule.

Meeus with a big win for him, his career, the team and the management :D
The right choice. Meeus instead of the faster but since two years underperforming Bennett. Bennett who refused to compete (and train) since june 2021 till the end of the season, because he wanted to earn as much as Evenepoel in the team of Lefevere. Bora made a big mistake by giving him a well-paid contract for 2022 and 2023. Although it was predictable that he would not get much more out of it. Bennett just saved his season by winning two stages in the Vuelta. Far too little for what he was paid. He also performed below level this season.
Good choice of the management. Bennett "by by" at the end of the season and a Tourstage (the queen sprintstage) for Meeus.

The fact is that Meus was a surprise last minute selection for the TDF - He had never shown that he was at the level to win a sprint at the TDF which was reflected in his performances up to stage 21. There is no guarantee that he will win another GT sprint stage.
But Meeus is still young, has learned a lot in this Tour (learning fast by winning the queen sprintstage) and especially has the better attitude than bad boy, crook and overpayed Bennett.

My wife wants it too after gifting her a huge bouquet for giving me the opportunity to watch at few likable stages on live signal instead of night watches.
Then you better hope Wout is having another baby next year around this time :D

Congrats Meeus! That's a great way to announce to the world that you can sprint!
that was pretty great, good drag race sprint. And I forgot to sub him in on my fantasy team :D. But yeah good on him for still having legs after three weeks of hard racing, interesting to see if he can build on this and take his sprinting to the next level.

It was always the right choice imo as Bennett was already out of the team for next year and Meeus has a contract for 24. Without a just clear gap in performance you always take the guy with a contract.

But people that are not looking closely just see the names and make up their mind. Boras sprint preparation was really poor throughout the Tour but the end speed of Meeus looked ok. He was just always in the Scrum 10th to 15 th wheel and often couldn't really sprint from there. He also never got a real leadout from van Poppel as the train was really missing horse power. So the win givers the team and management a good rep with their decisions. For Meeus himself the tour is quite the success especially because the sprinter probably coming in (Welsford) had a real shocker of a Tour. So the chances for Giro or Tour next year seem quite good again for Jordi.

You just need to make your wife hooked too. Then you can watching cycling together.
In fact the buquet seemingly brought both my wife and my 8yo daughter watching even more of yesterday's stage than myself, right post celebration talks, and way past my daughter's bed time - as their first Tour stage watch since being on location on last year's 3rd stage as a day's pitstop on our way to a Flandrian visit.
What flowers can do!

I know it's the general sentiment that Jonas is an uninspiring rider, but one thing I will take away from this edition is his time trial. I've gone back to it several times. It was a legendary performance: intelligent, courageous, powerful, breathtaking. It was indeed the race of truth.
For me the guy is inspirational in every way as a competitor, constant gentleman, gives praise when it's due, good example of a father and partner, his involuntary reaction is to reach for his family, in lows and you see during highs after stage win or other victory. Pog making claims that he popped himself in some kind of attack for no reason race style, Ving not burning a match, not expending an unnecessary calorie on his way to a second victory, a decisive one at that. And he really goes the spectrum, climbs like a scared deer and can hold his own on the flats and in TT efforts. And in US coverage they try and put some video minutes of filler backstory, show a little of a rider's person, their personality, Cav or Sagan for instance, both are real charismatic but lack results.. Ving not flashy but deadly effective and efficient. Can you tell I am a fanboy!!?

Must not have seen Vinge responding himself when he had teammates to Trentin and Adam. The guy is just Wolverine though.

Didn't get to watch it yesterday, and the highlights that I have watched didn't show anything of it: was there no honour ride at the front on the early part of the Champs Elysees for retiring riders? Surely Sagan and Pinot could have been afforded that?
