So, how do Trek-Lidl reason here? Try to go for stage with Ciccone even if there is a risk that Hindley gains time on Skjelmose?
Ciccone also needs as many KOM points as he can get today if he wants to go for the jersey. Skjelmose isn't beating Hindley for GC anyway.

Because ciccone is better than skejmose for this race. Skejmose is not good enough to compete with Pogacar, vingaard, Yates, Hindley etc

They were thinking he migt get enough of a gap to survive Soudet, so he could be of service until the last climb.

The race developed differently, but nobody could know that beforehand.
Everybody could know that beforehand. Pedersen would have needed 5 minutes.

No way Cav gets past the Alps in this form is there. Getting dropped way too early here
Astana and Cav talked about it earlier that their plans are to drop early to save energy and ride at his own pace. Got him through the Giro twice and Tour doing that. But two GTs in one year is another beast for him at his age and skill set.

Which he may have gotten, if the race was raced differently the first 2 hours.

People seem to think everyone but climbers should just ride in the groupetto today, istead of proactively trying to impact the race

UAE should cut their losses and start pacing properly. Letting Trentin and Bjerg pull would mean 5 minutes when the top of Soudet peaks out at the top of Soudet.

He was never going to get 5 minutes on the Hindley/Ciccone group in the move with Van Aert. Should have dropped back to Ciccone after the sprint to pull, like everyone has said.

A bit of renewed hope for the break now with the gap over 3 minutes. You would think that they need to break it up further and get rid of Hindley before the top of Soudet to have a chance for the stage.

Ya, just not good when he's getting dropped before Jakobsen in his shape.

It is too early in the race for anything to happen here. Was always gonna be on the last climb today. Maybe the break takes it.

Do we really know? Sure, he won't challenge Pog and Vinge, but Hindley and Yates? Probably not this year, but again, kid is 22 and how he will go later in the tour is hard to know. We don't have much to compare with.
