I've no idea what Bora are doing.

I think the danger is Wout van Aert up front as a satellite rider for Vingegaard.

It means if Vinge launches it on the Tourmalet, everyone would be totally screwed (even more so than usual). So I reckon Bora are pulling because they want this one to go down to a fight on the last climb & 'hope' they limit their time losses there.

Probably leaning towards "let's show how strong and in control we are as a team" even if that means riding on the front with their sprinters and opening themselves up to get stomped later

Bora isn't the sort of team that can afford to just hand the jersey over the day after getting it at the TDF.

They wouldn't hand the jersey over even if they give the break 15 minutes before Tourmalets. This ist about WVA.

Van Aert said before the Tour he was going to take it a bit easier compared to last year so he could be fresh for the WC but it doesn't appear that way so far. If he's not trying to win from the peloton he's out there in the breakaway.

Bora have calculated that Van Aert needs more than 3 minutes at the bottom of Tourmalet to stay ahead at the top. That's why they're keeping it at that distance.

In other news, which I think many overlooked as I did, Lafay dropped 27 minutes yesterday.

He’s not a mountain rider, he’s tanking time for some of the second week stages.

They can't let it gain a greater gap, with Trenton and Van Aert in there.

If they gain a big enough gap to survive Tourmalet, it opens up Hindley to attacks already there, instead of just on the last climb.

Well obviously he took it easy by just going for the stage win for the first 4 stages and now he's ramped it up with a couple of days of long interval sessions off the front.

Possible if Kuss isn't in top shape today and can do a hard pull on the 3k steep section on the last climb. Otherwise Vingegaard is a safe bet.
