This is the best mountain stage to have a *** break on anyway. Satellite riders are practically useless here, there are barely any KOM points outside of the MTF, and the break being so weak decreases the chance they're still ahead in the final 4k and cause us to miss any attacks by Pogacar or Vingegaard.
That last point is the most vital imo. I’m

They do, it is still allowed. I hiked up from parking this spring and descended to the other side. But there were signs saying not to step out of path, at least in some places.

So I can definitely understand why spectators are not allowed, in addition to the narrow road. Nature reserve, and the hill is actually quite small in area (relatively). Would be chaos all over with the masses of spectators.
Thanks, good to know—it’s a fun hike with great reward when reaching the top. Probably less “fun” for the riders going up today!

So will DSM take this up? Bardet will surely want to do well today before his home fans.
Not very likely, but a stalemate between Vinge and Pog on the last climb, could give Bardet a small chance.

UAE don't want to pull Jumbo, Jumbo don't want to pull UAE... & no one wants to pull Jumbo & UAE. So it's a stalemate.

This is what Pogačar's fightback on Thursday earned him, i.e. Jumbo now fear pulling him towards the bonus seconds (instead of drilling the stage like madmen). Meanwhile UAE won't pull 'just in case' Vingegaard drops Pog again.

Ergo IMO Rusty Woods will win the stage.

So could TJV tactics be: let the break get a huge gap so that bonus seconds aren't not up for graps and then start pulling, making it relatively hard, and then test Pog on Puy de Dome, if it doesn't work Pog won't get bonus at least?
I think Jumbo has to make this race hard at some point, but I don't know how or when.

I don't think UAE cares about bonus seconds on this stage.

Burn riders for maybe a 4 second bonus?

Who is Opi Omi? In German thats a deminutive form of Grandma (Omi) and Grandpa (Opi).

Didn't care so much that they were ready to ride hard. TJV thought, we won't make the job for UAE, get the bonus seconds out of the way, then ride. If Vingegaard can't drop Pog, it doesn't matter if Pog wins a sprint between them.

If anything UAE was only ready to stop Wout from going in the break. Even if let's say the break gets caught, Poga and Vinge are the 2 strongest riders so the only bonus Poga could get/lose is 4 seconds which isn't worth spending your whole team bringing back the breakaway.

Finally some smart racing by UAE, eh?
