Or, alternatively, drive a snow plough up there the day before and it‘s still enough. Just looks like they haven‘t bothered clearing the road above the tunnel.I don't think snow will be a problem, it will be more than warm enough from now until the Tour, but if the top is blocked I'm sure they'll use the tunnel (like they did in 2011).
I thought it was already hot in France!Galiber may be out
Col du Galibier at risk of being removed from 2024 Tour de France due to heavy snow fall
On the 2nd of July, stage 4 of the 2024 Tour de France is supposed to be headlined by a summit of the mythical Col du Galibier before a descent to the finish line in Valloire. Just a couple of weeks o...cyclinguptodate.com
Agnès and Adet are quite similar, but I don't think there can be any doubt that Adet is harder. This is how I would rank the climbs in order of toughness. Only the first three should count as HC.
- Cime de la Bonette (stage 19)
- Tourmalet (stage 14)
- Plateau de Beille (stage 15, MTF)
- Isola 2000 (stage 19, MTF)
- Col d'Agnès (stage 15)
- Plat d'Adèt (stage 14, MTF)
- Col de Menté (stage 15)
- Col du Noyer (stage 17)
- Col du Galibier (stage 4)
- Col de Vars (stage 19)
Would the same climb early in a stage behind ranked lower than if it was at the end of a long stage? This is how I would rank the climbs in order of toughness. Only the first three should count as HC.

I wouldn't admire if Noyer makes big differences than Galibier. Noyer is very steep and narrow.Noyer harder than Galiber?
really?

I did Noyer on a clockwise loop from Gap on a hot day about 5 years ago. The road surface was really uneven and the climb was…unfun. I didn’t want to go back to try the other side. But it’s well below 2000 mNoyer harder than Galiber?

I think only those who are picked for the Olympics will consider that. What is the over/under for the number of riders deciding that there is no point in them continuing beyond stage 16?
I think there will be plenty of sprinters who say "What? No Champs-Elysees?" and DNS stage 17, especially if the weather is as hot as some are predicting.I think only those who are picked for the Olympics will consider that.
Might only be Philipsen or whoever is in green trucking along then I can see Cavendish trying to finish.I think there will be plenty of sprinters who say "What? No Champs-Elysees?" and DNS stage 17, especially if the weather is as hot as some are predicting.
I just see Galibier doing some damage if some team decides to do the stage full gas until the last 6/7 km of Galibier, and then with the fatigue, altitude plus stepness of the last 6/7 km, some gaps can happen between the top riders.Well, the Galibier, doesn't seem the hardest climb (but a long one). Taking the run-up, the Lautaret, into account, the last steep kilometers, and the altitude, the Galibier could be considered as one of the toughest climbs.
Keep in mind that the Galibier is the first really tough climb of the Tour. Some (sub) top riders will therefore have bad legs there. In addition, Pogacar must attack there to gain a sufficient lead for the second half of the Tour. So it will be a battlefield both on the climb and during the descent.

That's exactly the scenario I have in mind. A top Vingegaard could resist, but I don't think Vingo will be able to follow Poga this time. So, Poga with a lead of 30 seconds ahead of (the scattered ?) Roglic, Rodriguez, Simon Yates, Vingegaard... Other (sub)topriders further behind. Teammates Ayuso, Adam Yates, maybe even Almeida coming back in the descent and protecting the rider in front, Pogacar. Winning with three quarters of a minute.UAE has the firepower to drop almost everyone (except absolutely top guys like Vingo or Rogla) before the last 2-3 km on Galibier. Then Pogacar's attack will do the rest of damage (IMO only Vingo may be able to follow...or not).

To wheelsuck, one has to sit in the wheel. No way Roglic could react to different attacks of Pogacar (if in Giroform). Not gonna happen, if in need, Rogla will just wheelsuck.
