In that case, don't forget "Congratulations" by Silvía Night, the greatest Eurovision troll of all time.
The lyrics are essentially in praise of the wisdom of the Icelandic voters in selecting Silvía to represent them in the first place. She sings, for example, "so congratulations, I have arrived / I'm Silvía Night and I'm shining so bright / Eurovision nation, your dream's coming true / you've been waiting and waiting for me to save you", thus contending that the other entries of that year are things to be saved from. Silvía's song, on the other hand, is described as being "hot, okay, really not too gay". The Icelandic original continued this theme further, with one line running "congratulations Iceland, that I was born here". Silvía also sings "let's meet next year in Iceland"

Didn't make it out of the semi's. Proof that democracy is wasted on the plebs.

TBF the fact she insulted the organisers, her fellow acts (taking care to pick on those who already knew her), journalists and was misrepresented as having insulted the entire Greek populace during rehearsals (this was incorrect; she instead said an ablist slur) meant she was hardly the most popular before she even took to the stage. From the moment she stepped off the plane from Reykjavík to the moment she returned, she never broke character once. It's absolute gold.

His performances for the rest of the last 2 years really disagrees with that. Great win today of course but I don't think today discounts every other performance he's had lately.
He's pulled off some good sprints in the past couple of years; enough to show that he is still "there." I guarantee you that zero sprinters in this Tour viewed him as a washed up non-threat.

The argy bargy got costly - did something happen between Drizners and Ballerini?
https://cyclinguptodate.com/cycling/jury-fines-tour-de-france-2024
Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain-Victorious): Deviation during final sprint. 500CHF fine and 13 UCI points penalization.

Jarrad Drizners (Lotto Dstny): Unseemly inappropriate behaviour at the finish and damage to the image of the sport. 200CHF fine.

Davide Ballerini (Astana Qazaqstan Team: Unseemly inappropriate behaviour at the finish and damage to the image of the sport. 200CHF fine.

Wow. Unseemly?

Map of the last km (note that the wind came from NW):

Album of screenshots of the live last km and the overhead replay of the sprint:

  • Van der Poel is the last leadout rider with his sprinter, but he must have felt the previous day's breakaway in his legs as he drops back with 350 m to go. From that point on, all sprinters are going solo.
  • Pedersen doesn't find/follow Stuyven-Gibbons, as Girmay and Teunissen are between them on the first screenshot with more than 800 m to go. The Trek duo is the only leadout train that stays on track, and they do a great job for ... Ackermann.
  • Cavendish navigates the chaos like no other. Starts on the wheel of Ackermann and Démare, then finds Philipsen's wheel and defends his spot there, only to abandon it as soon as VdP is done and Philipsen thus without leadout. He immediately finds the wheel of Ackermann, which is the best place to be as Gibbons leads him out. It's a masterclass not only of intuiting the flow of the bunch, but how he places himself to give optionality while fending off those who try to take his position.
  • Cavendish and Philipsen play no role in the crash of Pedersen. Kristoff launches his sprint and holds his lane, unmoved by the faster sprinters. De Lie is on his wheel and goes from being on his right side to the left of him in order to launch his sprint up the barriers. Bennett and Pedersen are heading in the same direction, and as the three of them have overlapping wheels, there's not space for all of them. Very similar to the Sagan-Cavendish crash and DSQ in 2017. The fault is solely on the last rider who keeps going for it after the space vanishes.

You don't understand riders and trainers to seize opportunities in the most prestigious 1 week race, where they are allowed to ride for themselves and have a chance at succes which they will not have in a GT, be it due to teamorders or abilities/skills.

Also, per your other post why De Plus didn't follow, perhaps you missed it but he crashed hard earlier this week.
Vlasov is in the Tour to help Roglic in the final of mountainstages. Having the (relative) topshape of the Dauphiné, he would have pulled on San Luca, when Roglic was dropped. He would have been there in the group of 9 (instead 8) in the final km of the Galibier. Jorgenson is/was the leader in case Vingegaard wasn't ready for the Tour (it's still possible he has to become the leader here in the case of Vingegaard collapsing the last week) . He did one short pull even before the Galibier and was dropped in the Galibier. If Roglic would have been prepared in a professional way (being good in the Dauphiné, but not at his top), he would at least challenge Vingegaard and Evenepoel. And the crash of De Plus. That's an issue of course. But part of the game. What about the nasty crashes during the Dauphiné (including Evenepoel). Was that used as an excuse for the sub-optimal performance of Evenepoel and other riders ?
The only rider performing on an expected level is Rodriguez. But still less than Evenepoel who was only sub-top in the Dauphiné and less than Vingegaard who had to get up to standard in a short time and had not yet ridden a race before the Tour. So, your arguments don't look like anything.
I don't exclude that one of two of those riders will have a few good days in the next (mountain)stages. The shape cannot be (completely) gone.
