Soudal and Bora team directors: "Guys we need to be very attentive here. Keep our leaders at the front."
Meanwhile, "the guys":

The problem is what happened is against nature and totally backwards.

It should be the challengers who're ranked 3rd and lower in pre-race predictions making the race hard on terrain that can yield time gaps if they play their cards right, not the other way around.

Lose a minute against Pog and Vinge on a climb? Okay. No problemo. But losing it on the flat like giving them a gift was just not proper racing intelligence.

concussion protocols followed for Ganna & Bissegger

Vercher - injured shoulder
Nys - Bruises
O'connor - right knee injury
Van Den Berg - right hip injury

Now I bet O'Connor probably wishes he missed the split.

Wow, Yateses.

Simon was so determined to get dropped. He tried the first time after his mechanical and 'accidentally' caught up with the bunch but soon after made sure he dropped for good.

Congrats to Jasper Philipsen off the back of a monster lead-out by Alepin and MVDP.

A bit annoyed at O'Connor's crash and the echelon time loses by all but the big two but these stages are all too common in the beginning of the Tour de France.

Vingegaard looks like he's up for the fight from day 1 but Pogi looked like he was breathing through his nose in responding. Early days.

Congratulations to Jasper Philipsen for winning the sprint.

Great team support and a bit of luck in crosswinds. Gana and Bissegger abandoning due to crashes, O'Connor and a few others with a nasty crash, KOM crash fest ... Only around 9 more days of this, till the rest day. In GC both AAA teams did great today and both sprinter/GC orientated teams failed to delivered in any of their split objectives and got blown away in crosswinds. Hopefully they get their act together starting tomorrow.

This is amazing few weeks in a row, little Jonas jumping, creating chaos on the flats, finishing with sprinters and putting @39 seconds into two grand tour winners on a flat road..? Who would have predicted that ?
Not saying that they need an extra small green jersey, but the little Danish dynamo is inserting himself in new places. Pogacar is over the top confident for good reason, but Vingegaard gave him something to pay attention to..

Yes but Pogacar better not be overconfident. Last time he was like that was Granon 2022.
How true, how true.
Gotta be happy with TT exposure after Dauphine..he wasn't great on typical route but his climbing is OK. And 1 of the TTs in TDF has little to do with being aero..just powering up a steady hill. I have to say it's July and Remco and Roglic giving Pog a double Christmas present of @40 seconds each..
Worried about rising Lipowitz..talk about unlikely Christmas gift giver!!!

That's quite worrying in that it seems the concussion assessment is not to be trusted.

Huh? I read it simply as he didn't show sign of concussion at first, but since those signs sometimes only develope later, everyone involved knew they needed to keep an eye on him.
Then, when he did start showing signs of concussion, he was promptly pulled from the race.

No Ganna no Bernal..and lots riding on Rodriguez doing something, anything. And new kit looks good with new big oil sponsor possibilities.. For Ganna to drop had to be a really super hard decision for him.. See him in the Vuelta!!!!

Pogacar was just fine. He kept close tabs on the JV guys but Matteo and others drilled it through the ridiculous amounts of traffic furniture from about 17km, in. You could see Primoz and guys front and center at 18km, a couple of turns later they were scattered by going different routes around traffic islands. That left Primoz and another Bora trying to work with a QS rider. Somewhere Remco tried to bridge with 2 teammates and they blew up and settled back in the group. There was literally no collective effort to chase; just overworked individuals while JV's guys were doing a TTT seconds ahead of them. We can blame the Bora team but the chaos after they got split up in traffic furniture were to blame as much as their positioning.

The worst thing about today's stage is that neither Milan nor Merlier made it to the front group. In terms of GC, nothing really important happened. (emphasis mine)
I disagree about the GC. Remco and Primoz's times are big surprises. They will be on the back foot in the GC battle. Remco will have to press all the harder in the TT!
