This is exactly what I thought watching it. It's like he thinks he had the lead over Pog.

The profile of the final climb suits Pog more are we know Visma are kind of a race by numbers team.

Guess they didnt want to risk losing 5-10 seconds here (which was a 90% outcome if Vingegaard went super deep as Pog would get on his wheel and probably go past him)... and think maybe can claw time back in the high mountains.

What do you expect he'd get out of an attack on that final hill?

Visma's tactic is clearly to wear out Pog and his team while minimizing how much time he gains over Vingegaard on finishes like this. A Vingegaard attack could easily be countered by a Pog one that would win him a couple of seconds.
Yeah, I think he thought that countering that Pogacar attack would leave him vulnearable, even if he looked pretty good at that moment.

Aside from the stage win, what was Visma's plan today?
Seriously why do so many here don't understand it?

1. Visma wants to put fatigue into Pogacar and UAE, they do this by making the stage hard. They did exactly that.

2. If Vingegaard attacked at the end he would have gained what exactly on top of what the team already managed to do? Maybe a few seconds at most?

3. Vingegaard needs to capitalize on the building fatigue on stages where you can gain much more time in potential, this is not that stage.

All in all Visma did a great job, stage win, great team performance. They clearly showed to be stronger as a team than UAE and they are still in contention with Vingegaard.

Not sure really why so many here fail to see this. If this is enough to beat Pogacar in the end? I do not think so, I do think it is the best strategy though.

People are going to clown Visma but even as an avid Niermann and Plugge hater I gotta admit this was probably the best realistic outcome for them. Got the stage win and showed they can isolate Pogacar + limited the risk of potentially losing more time at the end.
Problem will be that a) Pogacar is simply too strong and b) Jorgenson is no credible threat, we saw today how little Pogacar had to dig to close his attacks down.

What’s with all the Yates wheelsucking shouts?

If Yates didn’t win today, it was going to be one of the other non-Healy riders in the break who didn’t contribute. Would that have been better?

I am old enough to remember Yates getting slagged off on here in 2018 for attacking every stage when he was doing “too much, “ now he’s not doing enough 🤪

Vingo tad strange tactical choises.. Imho should have kept pace high enough to hold Pogi in yellow for interviews and ceremonials and doping testing etc today and during rest day. But no. Maybe he was thinking more about Evenepoel then.

I read positive comments about Vingegaard on Twitter. He's coming out stronger.

What I've seen is Pogacar easily come out after Jorgenson, and Vingegaard wheel-sucker all day and doing nothing.

I see things differently.

I mean, nobody really expects Vingegaard to gain time on Pogacar on a 3km at 8% climb, not even his biggest fans.
That said, Pogacar still hasn't switched to the light bike/gotten rid of the extra training weight that comes with the dog of a bike that is the Colnago aerobike...

Remco's hope for reducing the gap is that Pogi & Vingo are unable to drop each other and they stop like today. This can happen during mountain stages.
Like I told you (I think it was you who said the opposite), even rivals decrease gaps on the road.

I realized a possible deadlock (we saw it in 2023) but if one is able to drop another (but by a small margin) then their pace is big and nobody holds back.

It's clearly the best strategy they have to play, and they got a stage out of it. Pog just seemed to barely be breaking a sweat.
