Ballerini, Abrahamsen and Schmid must be so dead
Well they have been riding at a steady pace for a long time. The guys in the chase group (perhaps minus Mathieu) have probably much less time in high effort zones, but at the same time have done higher efforts. Like Wout was pacing like a complete mad man in peloton at time, no guarantee that he is fresher.

Lemond-like transformation for De Lie, if this stage were held 3 months ago we'd see him on the side of the road after 40k shaking his head and remonstrating with his DS.

He’s having a great race for sure. Much stronger than I thought, but I don’t see how he gets away from that group.
If he's still there after the final climb (probably not) he could benefit from Van Aert & MVDP watching each other like in the olden days when they were closely matched.
