Remco with solid performance.. And it's totally a grab bag at the TT, good or bad ride from anyone can flip the script yet again. For all the things that Vingegaard did wrong, which are few , a bright spot was him maintaining tempo alone going uphill..it was impressive.. Some of the new names will need a great TT not to really lose hope for Paris. At least Remco is smiling while wearing the white jersey on the podium this time, before he looked a bit grumpy with just the white jersey. And he has some facial hair!
Is that Johannessen with his over the top heat training protocol?
I mean, he was considered a huge talent in the u23 ranks, with lots of untapped potential (compared to the typical Norwegian gc rider in that age group) because of coming over from MTB late.THJ finishing 4th definitively justified Uno-X working the whole day. He’s a legit GC rider.
Lipowitz is probably the only one who can challenge Remco for third place overall. Scottish Onley has an outside chance
legitimate chance yes, improvable also yesAnyone who climbed better than Evenepoel today has a legitimate chance of beating him for third or just beating him in GC full stop, with Lipowitz being the obvious favorite for the podium.
Unless race organizers are going to shorten the race many riders still have a chance at the podium or outside chance to win..Lipowitz is probably the only one who can challenge Remco for third place overall. Scottish Onley has an outside chance
I'm guessing their main concern was not giving a lot of riders a free ticket back into the top 10-race. In the end that was perhaps not a big worry given how poorly all those riders in the break ended up climbing.THJ finishing 4th definitively justified Uno-X working the whole day. Ganna for yellow!Gouveu is looking more and more like a genius right?
Flat tour coming soon
I think that is a wrong assessment. 2 minutes max is not enough gap for anyone in the break, at all. Pogacar took 2 minutes only to the second. The work was done so that the break didn't have >5-6 minutes. You also have to equate that all the riders in the break lift the pedal as soon as they are caught. Because their objective is to save energy and go in the break again. If the only concern was Carlos Rodriguez, then it is Ok because he ic climbing really bad this year.I'm guessing their main concern was not giving a lot of riders a free ticket back into the top 10-race. Exactly thisKudos to Evenepoel for pacing himself and fighting to stay in touch with the podium. Mas dropped later than him but lost 16 minutes in the end.
That's exactly my point. Uno-X was working so that the break would not get to 10+ minutes which it could easily do if no one in the peloton works. And going into the mountains with 10 minutes it means that a good climber could have stayed away even with 3-4 minutes and that would have meant that Carlos Rodriguez would have been well into the top 5 and Skelmose, O'Connor, Martin etc. would be getting perhaps close to even with THJ and suddenly there are a lot more riders fighting for the top 10.I think that is a wrong assessment. 2 minutes max is not enough gap for anyone in the break, at all. Pog certainly has a boss' attitude sometimes, but he really never gloats, and shows humility continually. That's why I can't dislike the guy. I would rather Jonas had won, and I will say that any hope of that ever happening this Tour or in the future, is gone.
I do hope that someone will emerge in the next year or two, to take over Jonas's place as an actual challenger, because his day of dropping Jonas is gone. I just want a real challenger for the sake of watching something with intrigue.
Here's to hoping del Toro will be lured away to another team. Probably too tall, and probably never be able to climb like Pog, but the kid has something special.

I don't think Jonas in 2nd place is a forgone conclusion.Lipowitz is probably the only one who can challenge Remco for third place overall. Scottish Onley has an outside chance
No one will ever reach Vingegaard's peak level. People don't understand both Vingegaard and Pogacar are probably the two best climbers of all times. We will probably wait another 30 years to see riders of this level in GTs.
So Pogacar will be king until he gets tired or has a bad crash (e.g. Froome 2019).
