It's more important that it's a competition that adds something to the race than that it rewards an alround rider. Rewarding an alround rider just means you're just handing more stuff to the guy who's already winning everything.
Good point. And the jersey’s historical legacy in the modern era has not been “all-rounder” but instead either pure sprinter (Abdu, Zabel) or “pretty good sprinter that can get over hills” (Sagan, Hushold, Van Aert).

It's better than someone wins it by trying to win it rather than someone wins it by accident.
It's hardly better. It's marginal difference at best.

I agree that Pogacar winning it without even trying wouldn't be good as well, but when the best sprinter doesn't care about the competition, there's obviously something wrong with it.

But then he already had a contract out 2024, so it's not like he could just sign for UAE?

He was under contract yes. Im not sure if they wanted to buy him out or it was for a year later. Or Im mixing up the years.

Anyways I'm 100% sure there were rumors about it (you can probably find them) but in the end he re signed with UNO X

After intense googling I've found something from his local newspaper (behind paywall) from August 2024 (just after he had signed the 2028 contract when his contract was running until 2026 already) that says some of the best teams in the world had been in contact with him (just me guessing: given his already long contract it is more likely that the bigger teams, UAE included, was interested in him and his contractual status, and not that there were concrete offers). That's the only source I am able to find about him being linked to any team.

Dylan Groenewegen's best result is 13th in Dunkerque

He was lucky to get 14th today because without the crash he wouldn't have finished in the top 25. The team had him in good position with 3kms to go until he for the MILLIONTH time lost the wheel at the round-about and that was race over.

Might be a bit premature for a Scott Theuns thread, though...

If multiple people hadn't ninjaed me so this got pushed to a new page that would have been nice...

I'm referring to this:

Everyone wants his autograph so he must be really good!

I'm rewatching the crash, but some of the footage is annoyingly blurred. People agree that the guy in the blue jersey to the left carries the main responsibility for the crash because he moved to the right - right?

He was about to win the stage today. A shame some spectator made him crash.

To be fair, he looked like he was not starting tomorrow when his tem mates pushed him over the finish line. It was obvious that he was injured in the crash. Nice work, Cofidis...
It was in response to that I posted it, seconds after ;)

Good win for Milan, he has the green jersey wrapped up after today as long as he manages to finish the race. Simmons did some great domestique work once again, he has really stepped up during this Tour.

De Lie looked really good if he hadn't be thrown off balance, I think he could have actually won.

Ivan Quaranta was one-dimensional. Milan's the individual pursuit WR holder and he has top 10 results in Gent-Wevelgem and Dwars door Vlaanderen.
Looks like being a heavy sprinter stopped being cool. And not just for Govenou.
