There also might be a situation towards La Plagne / Col den la Loze where UAE doesn't need to keep the breakaway in check anymore and Visma takes the gamble to pressure Quick Step into smoking Paret-Peintre, Van Wilder & Cattaneo.

Dunno if Ineos with Arensman after the Giro d'Italia and aging Thomas & Kwiatkowski could prevent such a big move. Arkea basically has Costiou and that's it. PostNL has Barguil and that's it. Red Bull could send Lippowitz into such a move rather than chasing themselves.

Question is whether Mas is still in the game after the Pyrenees. Movistar could ride with Rubio, Castillo and Romeo.

This might create interesting developments in the Alpes. Even if it isn't for the 1std positions, but the battle for 2nd between Vingegaard & Evenepoel and the places of honor behind the podium.

Edith reminds me of Cristian Rodriguez at Arkea!
Yep, also made this argument today already. Riders like Gall with good climbing legs should get opportunities. UAE and Visma won't care, rest is not really scarily strong.

Shocking result from Vingegaard, this was probably the worse TT that I remember from him since he is a Grand Tour winner. He will have to attack on the mountains starting from stage 10.

Remco winning the stage as expected and gaining important time on everyone but Pogačar that did probably his best flat TT ever which is a scary prospect for everyone with the mountains still to come.

Great day for the French, Armirail and Vauquelin both in the top5 and the two Movistar youngsters Romeo and Castrillo also doing very well.

Disappointed with Roglič, losing 25 seconds for Lipowitz is just not good for the former Olympic champion and expected a bit more from Jorgenson too.

He was arguably worse in the Vuelta 2023.

In absolute terms, that was definitely worse, but he wasn'tt expected to go h2h with 2025 Pogacar that Vuelta. It was far less of a shocker and the consensus was basically "yeah kinda bad" but not more.

Didn’t he have stomach issues and was sick in them beginning of the Vuelta for that TT though ?

That's what they said, but he also hadn't been altitude after the Tour. Back then he also only had one child to suck the love out of him, now he's got two.

Congratulations to Remco Evenepoel for winning the time trial.

With this stage finishing i feel that the Tour was opened officially in terms of establishing some relations in between the main favourites for the jerseys. Tactics can now get aligned in pursue of desired goals.

For next year Pog should plan to win:

  • General, mountain and points jerseys in the 3 grand tours
  • All monuments
  • WC both in TT and route
Then retire. I estimate a chance of not less than 40% of that happening.

Aru was about to crack completely. If Astana had abandoned him in order to reeled-in Contador it would have been game over for the Sardinian!

It seems like only Jean-Claude Leclercq & me remember that situation!
Aru winning both the following stages suggests to me he wasnt about to crack completely (and lose 5min++) that day, but I guess what happened 10 years ago isn't that relevant anyway.

I think he had some problems. But thing is that he came to that Vuelta from already winning 2023 TDF and was not in great shape from the blocks.

He came to 2025 TDF as his sole goal for this year and from that perspective this was his worst ITT performance in my opinion.

It will be interesting to see if TJV somehow adapts the strategy or will they continue to try wear & tear on Pog with agressive riding (and potentially burning their GC rider in the process).

This is a good plan. (Except for the retirement part)
