Vauquelin seems like a potential podium threat at this point.

Way too early to say that. He's done good and it's great to see that but he hasn't done anything that special. He's a very good time trialist and also a good puncheur. He's problem is the longer mountains, and there are a lot of those coming. Big chance he fades. He's also been in form early with Suisse, same with Onley btw.

Pogacar being good, or Vingegaard having a bad day?
I might be biased, but I seriously don't get the dislike some people have for Vingegaard.
Because he beat Pogacar twice?
Because he prefers to concentrate on stage races?
If you weren't a Dane, you wouldn't care for Vingegaard, in fact you would most likely detest him.

I've been locked in a work meeting and missed the stage. WTF happened? Did someone swap and rebrand Pog and Vingo's TT bikes?

I'm not danish, but I don't detest Vingegaard. I think he's an entertaining rider in his own right. But I gotta admit I don't really care about him. Which from a spectators POV is a bit lame. Especially because it's such a good rivalary with Pogacar result wise.

One could think that.
My guess is what ever experiment the Dauphiné TT was, they redid whatever they dried there and put Pogi in a previously successful setup. Vingegaard on the other hand probably had a very bad day, and I wonder if he paid a price for staying with Pogi yesterday.

Was Pog in his "new" TT position, or his old one? On ITV they seemed convinced that he'd cracked the new position, potentially with a lot of practice after the Dauphine. Unfortunately, I am too dense to tell the difference.
Either way, the big surprise wasn't how good Pog was, but how poor Vingegaard was.

What makes you so sure of that?
He's not a bad person...
He's quite boring and forgettable as a cyclist and off it, although this has improved a little. Jumbo Visma as a whole aren't very likeable which is saying something as the enemy is UAE which are very hard to root for yet have characters who are far more likeable and easy to root for.

You can do that even if you are a Dane, and you can also love him if you're Portuguese. Love and hate don't always see nationality.
Absolutely but of course someone will bat for their fellow countryman. Same way most British people wouldn't care for Chris Froome if he rode for Kenya.

I for one would have rooted a bit for Froome if he rode for Kenya. But the way I remember it he said about his change to British cycling that he indentifies as an imperial overlord, and his family was never really Kenyan. Or is my memory making this up?

I find Vingegaard a subtle and complex character, which to me is intriguing and interesting. And I think a lot of the Visma guys are likeable - Campanaerts, Benoot, Jorgenson, Kuss, WvA ... all likeable to me. Not so sure about Visma management, I'll say.

the lack of the long ITT is criminal

The reaction to the giro 2015 should not have been to remove very long ITTs because the best climber did not win. The thing to do would have been to tell Aru and Landa to ride their damn TT bike for once

Start putting 2 long ITTs back in the tour
The best climber won the race. Dislocated his shoulder, had zero team and still won the race. Before his crash, he destroyed Landa on Abetone (an easy climb).
