*** that crash! Hope everyone who made it to the finish can continue.

Good win for Pogi. pretty great ride by Mas to only loose 51 seconds after the crash, Vingegaard with the best possible result for him.

With Lipowitz you can clearly see that he's still very inexperienced and lacks ability in positioning. The first Mur he managed to be close to the front just do dangle along at the end of the group most of the time. Will be interesting if the can get better at this, or if this will be a thorn in his side all his career.

19th stage win in the Tour for Pogačar, Cav must start to be getting worried. He also has a 34 points lead in the green jersey competition so the sprinters are probably getting worried too.

Vingegaard resisting very well apart from the TT his first week has been near perfect.

Very good performance from Onley and Vauquelin once again and surprised to see Gall up there when riders like Roglič and Lipowitz were dropped, bodes well for the mountains.

Really sad to see Almeida having a hard crash, he was looking good and would have been a huge help for Pogačar in the mountains. Hope that he can continue in the race and the same goes for the remaining riders that crashed.

Cavendish knows the record will be gone in 3 years, there's nothing to worry about. The real achievement was taking it in the first place.

Congrats to Pogacar. Two stage wins already. Impressive again by Vingegaard to hold his wheel when all the other GC favs dropped off. But he did that before the TT too.

Long way to go though and Visma will try to make the race as hard as possible hoping Vingegaard's claimed 3rd week recovery and/or Mont Ventoux can come to the fore. What else can they do?

Weather looks warm and that might help Vingegaard by the 3rd week too.

Let me ask a question here. In the 21st century, how many times has a sprinter won 4 or more stages in a single Tour?
Now, how many times has a TTer, climber, breakaway or uphill finisher won 4 stages in a single Tour?
Drop the number to 3 or more stage wins in a single Tour a day ask the same questions.
Hell, drop it to 2 or more and ask the same questions?

The answers are clear and the reasons why obvious, yet everyone still pretends winning sprint stages is equal to other types of stages.

I have always argued a 2 to 1 weighting for regular stages v sprint stages, so Pogacar winning 19 today would be the equivalent of 38 sprint wins.

Very crazy that there's a single record in cycling that favors sprinters. And not even that much.

Pogacar could win stages as a veteran. But once Pogacar's level drops, I think he'll do like Merckx and Hinault and won't return to the Tour.

When an athlete reaches a certain level, it's no longer worth it to win at a lower level, and most retire a year or two after their last great year.
Except Michael Jordan, of course. And Froome, who hasn't won in years, but he's still collecting a paycheck.

Even though one week of the Tour is gone and there are some signs we still know little regarding the outcome. Without the high mountains (most important part of GTs) we don't have the full picture. And the next 5 days won't change much in our knowledge. Oh boy, this race is so backloaded. It's really high time for the first mountain stage now.

It's crazy that noone of Red Bull beside Roglic and Lipo was there. I am sure Lipo would have been in the frist group with a helper who brings him in a top 15 position before the climb. He started nearly last. Only Pog or perhaps Vingegaard could have made it from that position.

Couldn't agree more. But thanks to the ever so wise organisation we first have a very exciting sprint weekend to look forward to!

If winning stages is heavily skewered in favour of sprinters, they why compare them to the likes of Merckx or Pogacar? give them a sub-category or put an asterisk beside them or something. Sprinters are not worthy of having things skewered in their favour.
It's just a stage record lol.

You can decide to not care because it favors sprinters, but denying it's validity or suggesting alternate ways of counting because you don't like the rider who has the record is just silly.

I don't like Pogacar, may I please suggest another way of determining the overall winner of the race?
