I miss the halcyon days of 2022 when Pog finished the Tour with a team consisting of only Mikkel Bjerg, Brandon McNulty and Marc Hirschi, with everyone else having fallen by the wayside. I know UAE have always been a sports washing operation, but somehow it was less depressing when they were a bit haphazard and couldn't just control any stage they felt like.

MVDP looked like he was up for the sprint but gave in early - maybe doesn't have the legs today?

great to see such crowds just in the small towns--cycling is still big in Brittany. The Mur will be mobbed.

does he explain what that strategy was aiming to achieve?
They said their strategy was to make the race hard and keep Pogacar in yellow, the latter I think was what Pogacar didn't seem pleased about. Though it didn't fully work he will probably end up with the lead after today, and have to muck about for the next few days doing the press rounds and ceremonies.

Yates being the one in the break was probably the big mistake from them yesterday I think.

Why did Jorgenson try to jump the break with MVDP in it earlier in the stage? I think they decided about the yellow jersey too late and botched the execution terribly

Edit: Actually, it kind of makes sense to jump into the break to force UAE to pull it back, but even that was a botched execution that only made Jorgenson do a pointless effort

Obviously time will tell - and it might not matter in the end if Pogacar is heads and shoulders above everyone else week 3 - but I don't understand the big favourite's team working this hard, all day, on a stage which is not at all a GC day?

The few seconds Pogacar can take up the Mûr cannot possibly be worth the effort?

To me it either means Pogacar is supremely confident he doesn't need the team (much) in the big mountains - or he thinks the Tour can still end up being decided by seconds and wants the bonus seconds.

Yeah I don't think the yellow thing was the plan initially, but when they saw Van Der Poel was completely tanking they decided to go for it, slightly too late of course, though not a complete waste as he will end up in yellow after today, which he wouldn't if they'd just ridden it in.

Pogacar should ignore Jorgenson, he's a *** stirrer and a fake threat, he was chasing him down himself yesterday when he had Wellens right there. I get the impression there's a bit of ill-feeling between the two though.

Dan Martin on needling Pog this morning about beating his record on the Muir de Bretagne means it will be a fast one

was struck at how much like Stephen Roche Dan Martin looks like now he has abit more weight
