But the disqualification of Cav and Thor is complete idiocy. If they are going to penalize that, they are going to be very busy every day.

Oh yea, that one stage win was impressive...

one out of 3 bunch sprints. farrar has a much worse record against cav then petachi and he has also lost more often against petachi then win against him for that matter

I don't know if you noticed, but he reduced that gap today...

We'll see how many he gets during the Tour with an in form Cav and Farrar not leaving. You guys can think he still has it, but he is the third fastest here at best, and that is even questionable.

I was impressed. It was a masterpiece of timing and roadcraft

That I will give you, but as for his speed, he just doesn't have that pop he once had, anyone who says differently is in denial. But maybe "washed up" was a bit hyperbolic...

Cav on ITV now. Credits his team for a great lead-out as always. Says Roman Feillu causes havok, claims Feillu took him out on the last corner. Says HTC were on the front too early so he fell back a bit and tried to slot in on Garmin's wheel. He went in to the corner with Rojas on one side and Feillu on the other, Feillu caught his rear wheel and he nearly went down.

He says he knows people will write him off but he knows he has great form and will come back.

NOT A HAPPY CAVENDISH.

Not sure if someone allready mentioned it, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Feillu. Feillu seemed to be infront of Cav. Cav had Rojas on his right and an Sky on his left.

yes he is not the old style Petacchi anymore, but if you let Cav pick the opponent at his wheel, i bet Petacchi is still the one that cav fears most( cause from that position in a gt sprint he was able to beat cav 3 times in the last 3 years, while Farrar only once); and that's why i think that he is still world number 2 sprinter.

Just heard van Poppel speak.

Marcato attacked to disrupt the sprinter trains. I love it. Just like they did in Switzerland. They almost succeeded, with the exception of the Garmin train ofcourse. I do like it that they try stuff like that.

petachi beat cav on the giro before either of those left. he may not be as fast anymore but i would still put my money on him over farrar for the green jersey.

Now we're getting somewhere. It isn't all about speed. That win was a perfect example of the adage

"Age and guile beat youth, innocence and . . . [what's the rest of it? Oh yeah . . .]

a bad haircut."

I don't even like that adage but in this case it was definitely true. :D

You are right about that first point. A few year back I remember Tom Boonen saying that the only time he was ever unsure going in to a sprint was when Petacchi was on his wheel. I'm not sure he can match the likes of Farrar and Galimzyanov for raw speed but he is absolutely one of the smartest sprinters in the pack.

Rojas might score points tomorrow on the Mur, too. The guy's a beast. He has done top 15 in Tirreno, Paris-Nice, Tour de Suisse... which means he climbs a lot better than Hushovd, who is by no means a bad climber, but just can't do such things. I'd love to see Rojas wear the green jersey in Paris. He'll fight for every point for sure.

finishing like this on mass sprints and doing well on the thought ones for gilbert. he can contend for the jersey without even getting a win

I really think Petacchi is a classy stylish sprinter, one of few...
if he doesn't have the raw speed of youth anymore he does his sprints with panache and is fun to watch. :)
..hope he does well on a stage

If that's what you think, you're watching the wrong replay.

Can't see what happened that doesn't happen regularly round sprints, wouldn't have thought it was worth making a fuss about and I don't believe that it could have had any impact on the result.

As somebody said, if they carry on like this, Cavendish's persecution complex will start to look as if it's justified and I don't think I could stand the self-justifying whining.
