Because they then didn't go full gas to catch up:-

'I was fighting with Rojas into the last corner and kamikaze Feillu came flying in.

'I thought I was going to crash. I thought I was coming down. I was 40 metres behind coming out of the last corner with no speed whatsoever.

'I went full gas. I gained 40m and finished with the front four and I gained points - it just shows my form.'

I knew what Cav did, was just wondering about the other two, they must've come to a complete stop and waited for the rest of the peloton. Boonen's comments above are interesting as well, if what he said about Ciolek infers he as leading him out.

Taarmae had a flat and the whole team and car motorpaced him back.

As long as they don't spend a lot of time paced by the car it's ok. How much is 'a lot' depends on the jury as seen with Garzelli in the Giro.

That was a lot. I think being an Italian on an Italian team helped Garzelli there

I think they basically got DQed because there was a good TV shot of it and it was the middle of a straightforward stage and so got repeated a few times.

it's just a part of the statement which was quoted above. It sounds different if you read it in context:

"I'm bummed I couldn't bust a good sprint today. I felt like I had a good sprint in my legs, I pedalled very well all day. We went into the left curve -located about 600 metres from the finish line - very fast. I was right on Cavendish's wheel with Petacchi on mine. We came out of it really close to the barricades but then some athletes busted in at full speed and forced me to brake to avoid the worst", said Boonen about the final sprint. "It's too bad for Ciolek, too. Gerald drove me really well but right before the last kilometre he also had to pull off a balancing act to stay on his bike. It's a lost opportunity and I also lost lots of points for the green jersey. You never know at the Tour, though, we're going to keep trying. Often all it takes is a couple of good results to get back into the race for the points jersey."

Cav is faster, but Petacchi is washed up. Time for the glue factory there, so in a true sprint, Tyler will do fine against him.

Really not sure where that comes from. Most head to head incident free racing from the last 2 years indicates the opposite, and Petacchi was still pushing Cav, and occasionally beating him, in the Giro.

That I will give you, but as for his speed, he just doesn't have that pop he once had, anyone who says differently is in denial. But maybe "washed up" was a bit hyperbolic...

Strange, until I read the previous page of this thread, I assume you were talking about Tyler.

I only post during the TdF but this year is a good one to have my nick.

Such a good picture of Thor and co cheering. I might just go out and buy a new bike...

Red number?

Any word on who won the combativity award? I'm assuming Delage since he won the intermediate sprint and the KOM point as well as being in the two-man "break from the break"...

Delage got it. Saw it on a results page somewhere.

Despite his second place, Feillu was upbeat that Cavendish and his normally dominant sprint train were finally derailed.
*
"I'm happy that things are becoming a bit frayed, that we're not subject to the domination of Cavendish," said the Frenchman, whose team has no sprint train.
*
"His (sprint) train made some mistakes, which is good. It's encouraging for the likes of (Alessandro) Petacchi, Farrar and hopefully me.
*
"Just because you've got a sprint train, it doesn't entitle you to victory."

The Hushovd incident decision is nothing short of a scandal though, and he has a right to feel victimised.

I don't think this could raise the the level of a scandal, no matter what, you can't head-**** somebody.

I agree that there are times the UCI officials are inconsistent. That needs to be addressed. But, when things are clear violations and in clear sight, there should be punishment.

Remember the race jury is not the UCI.... The UCI didn't DQ Chavez & Thor.

You are right, but the jury are all officials who are supposed to be at the top of their profession. The UCI needs to work on the standards for officiating, for officials, and how much 'play' is allowed.

Can't believe the UCI took points off Thor/ Cav. Cav ran out of teammates, Martin's like i shall pretend i'm tired and get Goss to pull for last 2k. Well that's not fair to the other leadout riders and you shall never get top 10 so just help Cav. Who was the Vaconsoleil rider who attacked and why on earth did Geraint T stop even after he realised Swift was not with him??? Nice timing by Garmin. I just don't want them to not pull earlier in the stage along with Lampre. Garmin will help now as they have Farrar/ Thor possibilities and Lampre need points for Petacchi.

What happened to the young Russian as well ( the way Ligget/ Sherwen were hyping him up i thought he would be up there ). Cav somehow got 5th as well confusing???

I read that it was Marcato. Ligget said it was Bozic which i thought was odd as he led out Roman F. Also Geraint was leading out EBH, not Swift.
