Thoughtforfood said:No, no he hasn't. Someone else in this tour will likely crash out for some reason on some descent or into some traffic furniture. It is part of the freaking deal, and sorry, but 6 sections of cobbles, none of which were the hardest they could have found, is really not that big of a deal. Why should it be that the only time gaps that count are on mountains or TT's?
Like I said before, ASO endured mounds of criticism in years past for making the race too hard with mountains. Then we get a tour like last year that had the drama of a Little Miss Georgia pageant because it was too freaking easy. The race was boring with a capital Zzzzzzz. They decided to do something that would liven the race, and it did just that. Not to mention that it was fun to watch. Riders also forget one thing in their little pity party, if people don't watch the races, they don't get paid big fat checks.
The point is crashes on narrow cobbled stages are often fatal, whereas most of the time riders can carry on. It's far more randomn. There is a very serious point about whether it was wise to introduce that into a grand tour. If you don't like grand tours then don't watch them - but don't try to turn it into another classic race to sex things up.
I know it's fun to criticise people that are more talented and earn more money that yourself - it's one of the joys of following pro-sports - but Andy Shleck is not a pussy for raising this issue.
