What the hell kind of tactical genius is Johan to assign Levi (of all people) to "keep an eye on Vinokourov"?

What the hell does Johan propose for Levi to do, should the necessity arise for Vino to need controlling? He can't follow a full-on Vino attack. He certainly can't keep Vino from throwing elbows at RSH domestiques like in Crit.Int. Is Levi supposed to try to steal Vino's bottle? Radio back to Johan that Vino is being a bad boy? What? :D :p

"Look after him" is right. Levi will be watching while Vino disappears up the road in a cloud of dust.
He was supposed to give him "The Heavy Look??" in hope that it's weight will slow him down.

Well... keep an eye on... doesn't necessarily mean do anything... :p

Anyway... just noticed that McEwan was riding today. Good to know after what happened yesterday! :D

It's amazing he was in the bus, because he really was riding alone for most of the stage. Sporza were kinda keeping up to date with him, with their motor reporter

Perhaps just marking him... as in literally keeping an eye on him.

It's possible he didn't mean that it was his job to counter a Vino attack, but rather to ride near Vino in the pelaton all day so that Bruyneel would be aware of his position and get some forewarning should an attack look iminent.

It would be fun to see Leipheimer try to counter such an attack though. I wonder if we would have noticed.

Yep, what an attack and stage victory from Vino , blew the whole peloton away:rolleyes:
What kind of stupid reaction is this? We pick someone who has a good chance of winning, and when he doesn't you get to make fun of us? It's not science, you know.

im clearly joking

and the guy said - "vino should win this"

That means he sees P( Vino wins) > P (Vino doesnt win).

I said i thought this was incorrect and while vino was a good bet i didnt see him as an odds on favourite.

In the end Vino didnt attack, so i reserve the right to remind the poster of this. Just a little banter is all.

Great job for Chavanel. Hope he gets yellow too.

Quick-Step are, clearly, the best team of Week 1.

Excellent ride by Chavanal. Gutsy. Some of the best stories of the TDF come from guys like this.

All the gc riders finished in a group with 36 riders.

Shack was the best represented with 4 riders.

Astana 3 riders
BBbox 3 riders

Several teams with 2 riders.

Liquigas probably sent all their squad to take it easy and dont waste energies on the climbs... that's why all the bunch arrived together at 22min though...

Rabobank... some of them were having a tough day especially Lars Boom, he was supossed to be next Menchov during the climbs...

Cervelo... well they don't have a really tough team for the climbs so Carlos Sastre did it normal arriving with AC - LA - AS - Cuddles - Menchov - Gesink - etc...

SaxoBank... They had a really bad day, especially Fuglsang that should has been in the front with Andy...

HTC... Well Tony martin were struggling and Mick Rogers didn't have a good day...

Sky... EBH and Thomas ufff they suffered today... but Wiggo he did it well... lets see what he is going to do tomorrow...

Milram - Lampre - Katusha - FDJ - Caisse - Euskatel - etc... they just did what they can... lets see who is going to attack tomorrow...

Martinelli said that Alberto was getting bored and he wanted to hammer a little bit the pace and make the gap against Chavanel more handleable... when that happened Dani and Tiralongo were there just like 10 or 15min though... nothing much serious then Tiralongo rest the most of the climb and Dani arrived with AC and Vino...

Where did you see Martinelli's comments?

EDIT: never mind, I found them.

Surely Team Sky is more than Wig+Ger+EBH?

Hope that is Geraint Thomas you are refering to ;)
Thomas Löfkvist sat with the GC-contenders' group despite puncture in the front wheel and subsequent change in the last climb AND a slow leak in the back wheel.

I don't think Löfkvist is mentioned even once in the news at the Team Sky homepage, even as he sits at 15th in GC, is it tactics or is has he been overshadowed by Wiggins and Geraint Thomas?

I don't "crave" media attention to Löfkvist, but only credit when credit is due - mere mention would suffice when he is the best placed rider of the stage and only four places behind Wiggo in GC.

I hope this, my first post, will be thought worthy

I think that means alberto wants yellow at morzine as he would not want the gap to be manageble if he did not want yellow.

He doesn't want yellow. He was just applying a little pressure to see who had what. Keeping the gap manageable is just smart.

Didn't realise that Gadret finished 4minutes down...

So he can hold it together over the Mortirolo but this 5%er was just too much. Maybe just dumping time though.

I'd say dumping time. He's made it clear that his goal is stage wins and now that he's six minutes down he should be given some leeway. If he gets in the break he'll be extremely hard to beat given how well he's climbed this season.

Pehaps you can relay a time to us when Vino disappeared up the road from Levi in a cloud of dust?? i can remember a few tours when Levi rode away from Vino in the big hills and thats what will probably happen again this year so marking him is exactly what Levi will do.

I have to agree with you there. This tour is already heaps better than last years sad excuse. Having no bloody TTT has played a large part in that.
