Tour De France: Unchained aka that netflix thingy

It seems the Tour is all about stress, frustration and fight for sponsors approval. If you ride the Tour you end up disappointed, unless your name is Pogacar :p. Teddy was presented a bit like the Voldemort of cycling.

OTOH Vingo made a very positive impression, his struggle to come back and win the race after the crash was presented very well and I liked it. Some will definitely become his fans after watching this.

The show's main problem (among all the other documented ones) is it treats GC like an afterthought. It's just a sort of dramatized lifestyle vlog set during the TdF featuring various 'actors' (some relevant, others not) that pushes the daily battle for yellow into the background and doesn't follow any sort of linearity in terms of timeline.

It says Vingegaard's win on stage 11 was all about overcoming his crash and showing his worth again. But what that really was in context was an exciting GC fight that suggested there would perhaps be a tighter battle for the win. Then Pog blew that all away in the Pyrenees when he demolished everyone.

Netflix ignores the 'sport', basically.

Just watched Tour de France season 3 episode 1, David and Goliath. I think it's quite promising. It could be a warm-up before TDF 2025. From the series, at least I got a new perception. This is not just Pogacar vs. Vingegard. But also small teams who dream of making achievements, such as winning a stage...

It's true that after the Massif Central stage Vingo looked like a co-favourite, who might even distance Pogi on the longest climbs. However the Slovenian upped his level significantly (which is quite interesting) in the second half of the race killing it completely.

Of course it is. This is the Hollywood version of cycling. Nothing to do with real cycling the way they have been framing stuff the last years. That's what I mean.
I respectfully disagree with the point about Americanization, as you’ve already distinguished that from the dramatic elements, which are what the show portray cycling as. BS drama in everything.

The recurring theme seems to be that traditional approaches are no longer sufficient given the significant investments by big corporations and one oil-funded team. Criticizing the influence of big companies and large investments on the sport is not very American at all.

Or maybe they more honestly portrayed him the way he is. Every other cycling media source dance to his tune because he is the biggest name in cycling.

I'll approach the Pogačar question as neutrally and tactfully as possible: I believe Pog and UAE were having a laugh, i.e. turning up the heat on the 'mind games' and deliberately presenting themselves that way in order to present the image of an invincible superman who never doubts.

Clubber Lang stuff, essentially.

Not familiar with that last reference but you may very well be right. I don't see the upside from playing it like that though. Maybe they just don't give a f*** as you say

So many complainers on here as usual...This series is not for pure cycling fans ...Its for the vast majority of people out there who may watch and some may follow cycling . And it needs them... I am at episode 3. Who is the main talking head . He looks ill

Of the top 4 Roglic comes across best... liked when he says ..When I go down hill I dont care
But Jonas is the nicest
The UAE car seem like robots and hard to like

As for Ag2r and Sam Bennet ..this is all part of the Tour and should be in there though I guess Bennett would probably prefer to be left alone

It is obvious the TV guys are looking for drama as watching Pog win everything is not good TV
I guess this is why this is the last series.....very little drama

I liked Arkea BnB win and Bardet ....
The Tour is more than the top 4 or top 1 ...its a unique event on the calendar and should be looked at in its entirety

Anyway they are off so thats it really

Thank god this it's the last season of this BS dramatization and Americanization of the sport.
Amrica produces the best TV in the world

Their dinner at home scene conversation was faker than the Movistar trifecta photo shoot.
that was an Ai photo
Neutral fans don't care about french cycling because they are not relevant right now and this show was too much focused on french teams and french riders.

French cycling is relevant to the French who still have the most fans . And all cycling is relevant . Just one person is not cycling. This view of relevance based on wining is ridiculous. Fans are fans no matter who is number 1

So do you think they care about Sam Bennett and AG2R?

Someone in the production team for the English dubbed version obviously reckoned the general manager of Arkea looks like The Pub Landlord, but they couldn't afford Al Murray , so they got some other grumpy geezer from Ilford to do his voiceover.

Everyone else gets the same incongruous sounding sixth formers from a minor private school in Surrey as last year.

So do you think they care about Sam Bennett and AG2R?

you completely missed the point of the episode..its not about Sam Bennet per se ..There are several Sam Bennets in cycling in any year. .its about Lavenu and how he was pushed out of the the team he championed for over 32 years ...And its about a dreadul new 'manager' who thinks shouting at riders is the way to go to get results. This is about the crux of the change in the sport when the money people who dont know the sport become the leaders. (BTW Bennet's power is the same as Philipsen..he doesnt have MvDP and is easily put off - he is not washed up as you disrespectfully put it )

Sure alot of French team are like a family and dont really compete with UAE and Visma and SKY before this ..but they do love the sport and support all riders

but I guess you only support Pogacar who with UAE is doing more to alienate fans...with oil money and brashness
