Boily... I remember last year in the GP Montreal when he was dropped with still 100 guys in the front group including some notorious non climbers.

Can't say this years Tour l'Avenir is impressing me

A guy has a crappy ride at a race last year and now the race he's leading in is easy.

I can't say your post impressed me.
I'm definately not anti-non-europe.. jesus christ where did you invent that? that's hilarious
I'm just saying from what I've seen by Boily in the few races he rode with the pro's i'm not particularly impressed.

And I also can say I'm not impressed by your premature labelling of me. What are you? A racist?

I know he can make it over hills. But last year he finished on 5+ minutes in the mountain stages.

I've seen footage from the GP Portugal, those were semi-bunch sprints. He was, however, one of the strongest on the hills in Geelong, together with Degenkolb (who isn't exactly a climber either).

yeah he did pretty well at the worlds.
Pretty good rider on a whole tho. I wonder how he will go in the pro ranks.

Boily's performance is really well-timed because it coincides with the Quebec races and he's getting a little bit of media attention in Canada which is great for Canadian cycling:)

I'd be wary of discounting his talent by comparing early results against riders from stronger cycling cultures. Canadian road cyclists almost always come from other sports or other cycling disciplines and will develop at a later age.

I don't know what he'll be able to do in his career but I hope this weekend has some Canadian kids who like riding bikes thinking that maybe they'll try racing someday!

Having a strong cycling culture doesn't mean that kids grow up to be bike racers. Maybe in Belgium, but for instance in Holland cycling isn't a sport that most kids do from a very young age. Mollema won the Tour de l'Avenir two years after his first bike race.

Actually, the youth numbers is Holland are vastly superior to my native Canada. Having raced enough in both countries to see this first-hand, I would say that having a strong cycling culture means that kids are more likely to grow up to be bike racers.

Just to add a little anecdote, upon arriving for my first crit in Holland those many years ago, there was already a kids race on using the same course the elites would be racing on (I think it was a "schema 12?"...do they still use that classification?). As we watched them go around on their upright 3-speeds the finish came up and 2 ten year olds proceeded to duke it out for the finish. We watched in amazement as the one kid started bringing the other kid into the barriers until he gave up....and these kids were moving fast! On another note you can imagine our surprise when we first came across a gym class of kids out for a ride, in perfect side-by-side formation. When we came up behind them they yelled "fietsers!" and gently split apart for us to pass. For two guys from the backwoods of cycling Canada, we were shocked.
