Rules for GC - yellow jersey
9.1.1. „ORLEN GENERAL CLASSIFICATION” - yellow jersey
Rules for Team competition -
9.1.5.„DECATHLON TEAM GENERAL CLASSIFICATION”
As was pointed out -award ceremonies
11.1.7. DECATHLON TEAM GENERAL CLASSIFICATION, the award ceremony for the team classification shall be held after the finish of the following stage except for the first stage where the team of the stage winner will be honoured. For the award ceremony the team will be attending with a minimum of 3 riders and 1 Team Manager.
It's all as clear as mud, or "who's on first" ...
yes, I quoted that above. I honestly don't understand what you mean to say

Sending Visma to the stage ("except for the first stage where the team of the stage winner will be honoured" = Visma) made no sense at all, of course. Which would explain why they didn't turn up.

No, the rules I quoted were for the team classification, but they don't apply for stage 1! :)
it says "team general classification" right at the top of your quote ;).

So I do think all team classification rules applied as normal, but they just came up with some unrelated nonsense for the award ceremony. Either because of sponsor demand, or they just mixed things up, and then sticked to it, because it said so in the roadbook.

today's stage is underway, by the way, and it should be a fun one with a lot of steep climbs.

Could have been one for the break, as Ag2R is fairly weak and UAE has too many leaders, but not many climbers made the front group:

- KIELICH Timo-
- VAN DEN BOSSCHE Fabio
- THIERRY Pierre
- PEREZ Anthony
- CAVAGNA Rémi
- REINDERINK Pepijn
- THOMPSON Reuben
- O'BRIEN Kelland
- SCHELLING Ide
- GAJDULEWICZ Mateusz

So break with about 4 mins. If Cavagna can find form from older times, he could be factor for the win, but the Alpecin duo also looks good. 100km to go.

Normally, I like it when riders wait for crashed riders.
Today... I don't think there's a point; not sure any of those riders - other than Majka who's already back in the peloton - are getting back on their bikes.
Lapeira definitely didn't look good.
