They were riding for Sheffield I think, who finished a mere 22 seconds down, but impressively managed to not crash as he usually does. Langelotti must surely be taken to La Vuelta.
My ineos team for vuelta:

-Langelotti (leader)
-Brandon smith Riviera (backup leader)
-Egan bernal (help the morale of Riviera, popular guy)
-Ganna (time trials/domestic)
-Foss (breakways/time trials/satellite rider)
-Oscar Rodriguez (climbing domestic)
-Lucas Hamilton (domestic - can crash GC rivals)
-laurence de plus (Belgian - domestic)

I imagine sheffield is saving his crash for the ITT this week

In this specific instance, it's of course correct (and the finale was very impressive by Langellotti and very, very unimpressive by Sheffield) in hindsight but he always exaggerates the stupidity of teams when they don't ride for the specific rider that he likes, also when it makes total sense.
Well, why not then just criticise him for it in the instances where he is wrong. This just reads as all too sour grapes.

no idea if it played a part, but van Gils crashed yesterday. And he also wasn't really good in San Sebastian either

Not his highest level I've ever seen, but obviously he was pretty good in San Sebastian. Otherwise you don't get 3rd and aren't in the top 5-6 best climbers in that race.

This is a vintage Van Gils finish, he should ALWAYS top 5 this, honestly should win this given his paycheck, but that's a different discussion.

Of course maybe his crash did play a part, but it did not look like he was hurt yesterday.

yeah, maybe it sounded a bit harsher than it should. I just didn't really have the impression that he was 3rd best, while in top shape, he normally may very well have been able to fight for the win, I think.

But nonetheless, he obviously still shouldn't finish 18th on a finish like today indeed.

9.1.5.2. The DECATHLON TEAM GENERAL CLASSIFICATION is
established by adding up the three best individual times of
each team in all seven stages. In the event of a tie, the fol-
lowing criteria shall be applied in order until the teams are
separated:
1. number of first places in the daily team classification
2. number of second places in the daily team classification, etc.
3. If still tied, the order shall be determined by the best placed
rider of the team in the „ORLEN GENERAL CLASSIFICATION”.

All the teams had the same time (according to https://tdp.infocity.pl/pdf/editions/134/wyniki.pdf ) so reading the rules point 3 decides it, So Visma should have been leading. I've no idea how Astana were supposed to have been in the lead.

Who said Astana were leading?

I was just looking at PCS, the easiest and most accessible way to obtain such information.
Guess they were wrong...
no, it's correct. There was a special provision only for the stage 1 podium in the roadbook, requiring the winning team (stage win - not team stage win) to attend the ceremony.

Normally there's no team podium at all during the races, and neither will be here again apart from the final day.

Stage 3:

Yesterday turned into an uphill sprint with little action elsewhere. Today could be very different with signicicant breakaction hopefully. Curious to see if Lapeira is able to hang on here.

UAE did post a video yesterday of three of their guys throwing some stuff at - or probably to - the spectators.
(Presumably their DS did attend)
ah right, yes, I misread that in the roadbook. So not sure what "following" refers to then. Or why they used a different format for stage 1 to begin with.

DECATHLON TEAM GENERAL CLASSIFICATION, the award ceremony for the team classification shall be held after the finish of the following stage except for the first stage where the team of the stage winner will be honoured. For the award ceremony the team will be attending with a minimum of 3 riders and 1 Team Manager.

UCI rules normally don't allow (?) a daily team podium, so I guess they also can't really hand out penalties for not attending:

2.6.018 bis Award ceremony
Riders must take part in the official award ceremony (prizes, jersey and distinctive signs) based on the various classification established by the organiser. The official ceremony will take place in the following order:

After each stage
- The winner of the stage;
- The leader of the general classification by time;
- The leaders of other classifications (except classification by teams);

After the last stage
- The winner of the stage;
- The winners of the other classifications (including classification by teams);
- The three first riders of the general classification by time;
- The leaders of UCI cups or series;
- All riders wearing a leader’s jersey

yes, which is correct. The rules you quoted are for the general classification.

Astana had the 3 best placed riders accumulated, therefor won team classification of the day. And led team gc, as they won the most daily team classifications (1)
Rules for GC - yellow jersey
9.1.1. „ORLEN GENERAL CLASSIFICATION” - yellow jersey
Rules for Team competition -
9.1.5.„DECATHLON TEAM GENERAL CLASSIFICATION”
As was pointed out -award ceremonies
It's all as clear as mud, or "who's on first" ...
