I think that fact has been pretty much ignored. Still though it was quite the impressive performance.
It hasn't, but it's one of the factors that made the whole thing so weird. Although I'd have bet on Pietropolli, Madrazo, Westra or Martin to beat Wiggins any day.

It's almost like a really condensed breakaway. All the favourites watch each other playing cat and mouse, no-one wants to spend the energy to close him down, putting themselves at a disadvantage, then by the time they realise he could win it, it's just a bit too late.

surprising result.

I dont think Wiggo is a good enough climber, but at this point nothing would surprise me anymore, he'll probably win the tour and I will become severly depressed.

Rabo discussion at rabo fail, not sure why anyone is surprised :D

Wiggans has earned my respect with the way he's ridden this season; with tenacity and a drive to do well in everything he enters. Approaching Sanchez-esque, or Nibilian, two other racing styles I admire. If he wins, I wouldn't be disappointed. I didn't feel that way until earlier today, probably.

Just watching the overhead Evans does come from a fair way back and seems to easily move up into a comfortable position. Watching it the first time I thought Morabito brought Evans up as the pace quickened but watching it again it looks more like Evans bringing up Morabito. There seemed to be some direction between them plus they had Van Garderen up front pushing for a win. Overall BMC looked pretty comfortable.

From a GE perspective it was a nice ride by Weening. We haven't seen to much of him yet in the GE colours but he seemed to contest that finish with ease. Watched him in the overhead get buffeted on the right hand side of the road, before coming right across to the left and then trying to pick his way through the middle for 10th place (on the bit they would say in horse racing terms ). Allan Davis was only 11sec behind and must have rued just dropping off slightly on the last climb.

and...severly depressed.
D

Probably right on count one. He can crack, re Angliru and Paris-Nice on Ventoux etc.

But about the latter, anyone know what on earth Cobo is doing?

It's last year all over again Timmy!

This time though, I don't think I'm going to stick my neck out and say that he will lose five minutes over the course of the mountains

Surprising result indeed. Wiggo looks definitely strong, same as Tejay. This is gonna be a good battle, but hoping Westra can prevail this time though. Fun to see Rabo at the front again :p 3 guys with 1k to go, then like usual, no result for them.

Dont get me wrong, if he would win I would respect the effort and ability to do so, but it wouldn't please me at all.

I'm actually starting to like Wigans too...I mean he won on track, he's winning on road on every kind of course...well sort of :D...he's starting to develop a nice aggressive (again...sort of) riding style, he works a lot for his team when he has to (see 2011 WC)...

...and he's got even ****ing overflowing hairs!!!

What else do you need?!

Wiggins for a repeat win? :D

I'll go with Davis in a more 'traditional' bunch sprint - you know, one where there's actually sprinters present.

Loosely translated:
Westra: Not feeling great! Still second though....
Hoogerland: Are you trying to make us feel bad?
Hoogerland: Stage 2 in Romandie. 149km and luckily for 'bad legs' Westra its not as hard as yesterday. Hope he manages to hang on.
Westra: Stage 2 in Romandie!! I hope that Hoogerland finally manages to pick up some speed, its about time he grabs some points!
Hoogerland: Hahaha, you dog! You are the only one who has more points than I have!

:D What a lovely exchange. Thanks for that. Westra might be overdoing things though. Hope he does not burn himself out, still a lot of racing to do.

it's not going to be a traditional sprint. that climb with 25 to go is 4 km at almost 8% and the final 600 metres are up to 7%

Westra will not be overdoing himself i don't think- doing the same races as Wiggins almost. He is not being expected to challenge for GC at every race too.

I'll go with traditional sprint, some climbers would really have to attack, drill it to the line and work together. It's closer to 30 than 25km from the top to the line.
