I don't know how much of a pure climber he is, to me he looks more like an allrounder with the engine for long range attacks/long rides in the breakaway.
I didn't say he was a pure climber, but most of his previous success has come from climbing and a short flat prologue is not somewhere climbers are expected to shine so this kind of versatility is often a sign of big engine and big potential.

Nice to see MTBr Fluckiger racing for the Swiss team.
Nice indeed. Now imagine if the Italian NT would have given Kerschbaumer (who has always been at his best on the hardest circuits and at altitude) a similar chance in the TotA, or another small stage race that they usually ride...

Man I would have loved to see that! I love Kerschbaumer! For a tall lad he is a great climber.

He's not that tall (183cm) and 68/69kg as a MTBers, if he was going to do more road cycling he'd probably loose some upper body muscle mass.
I've always felt like the modern MTB sport with all those short, explosive climbs isn't that ideal for him, he'd benefit from longer climbs.
Most coaches in road cycling would be shocked to see him training, the guy doesn't even train with a bike computer and only on feeling. Last year was the first time he tried to work with a coach and more methodical training and according to him that was a mistake.

When you're 5'8", someone just shy of 6'0 is tall :tearsofjoy:

Froome finished in the same time as Woods.
Both of them were bad, despite the route wanst good for them, but Verona was worst, and I am sure he will be one of the strongers this race on the mountains. The same as Woods. Respect Froome, is here working, but I hope for him a decent last Climbing ITT.

I'd forgottten how good the camera work is forRomandie, or maybe the geography just lends itself to that? Either way, you get a fantastic sense of the race. Such as it is at the moment .
