With the amount of corners, and how technical it is there's a case to be made if you might gain more time on a road bike in those technical parts compared to a TT bike in the straight sections.

If it's less than x kilometers (I think it's 10) it's a prologue; if it's more, it's a time trial.

They didn't need to film Zijlaard the entire distance, it would have been perfectly normal to also film Almeida and especially across the finish line.
