What would be the downside if they move Romandie forward a week? I don't think it's about not getting Ardennes top dogs or Tour A listers, they don't get them much anyway, nor I think it's about competition with Trentino, or afraid to look like a Giro prep race.
It's a genuine question, I like its quirky little style, but I still don't see what's so great about its position in the calendar, how does it appeal to top riders and their forms etc..
Almeida, Remco and Lenny are all doing Tour later.

And going back... Roglic, Thomas, Froome, Porte, Wiggins, Quintana, Pinot, Evans... are definitely some A-listers for the Tour that rode it in the spring as part of their schedule.

Edit: I think a very "traditional" or "conservative" build-up for the Tour with a rider more or less focused on only stage-racing would probably be to do ride 3-4 stage-races in the spring with Romandie being the last one.

Then Suisse/Dauphine before Tour.

Thanks. The race being the last of the block for those guys make sense, but..still...why not a week earlier since we're talking about those who don't have much of classic calendar?

And yes, I know big Tour riders sometimes come, but not really in numbers like other spring stage races, and not in serious forms. Don't they want more of the important Giro guys to add to it?

I dont know about that. More often than not someone out of the "A-listers" has usually won Romandie as far as I can see.

I dont really see why they would want to have it earlier to potentially get more riders that are preparing for the Giro either.

I think it has a good spot, as is. It is in its own place.

From this year C Rod, Almeida and Remco all have a good chance to finish top 6 in the Tour. Lenny is up and coming. This edition wasnt bad and it was a pretty good race.
